Ignite those engines, Star Wars Galactic Racer has been announced

Secret Mode and developer Fuse Games have announced Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a brand new racing game set in the world of Star Wars, after the fall of the Empire. Check out this reveal trailer to see why it is not just pod racing.

The timeline for this racing game is after the fall of the Empire, but before The New Republic has had a chance to attempt to become a proper government, so this is a few years before The Mandalorian. The game will offer a story-driven (driving pun) campaign, where you play as Shade and as you race you will form rivalries with other racers and succeed or fail based on your reputation.

When a team with such amazing racing chops like Fuse proposed a new expression of racing in a galaxy far, far away, it was a true no brainer decision. One of the great things about Star Wars is that it can be a perfect fit for many genres and audiences. We are always looking for new and creative ways to revisit genres fans have enjoyed in the past and find unique expressions in the future.

Lucasfilm Games has a long and successful relationship with many of the key leaders at Fuse Games from their time at Criterion, including their work on Star Wars Battlefront II Starfighter Mode. In addition to the great work on our projects, they have been industry leaders in some of the most beloved racing franchises in Need for Speed and Burnout. I can’t think of any other studio better suited to bring Star Wars racing back to our fans.
— Douglas Reilly, VP and GM of Lucasfilm Games

The trailer uses Jakku a lot for its racing playground, but there are other planets players will visit including Ando Prime and the new location Sentinel One, which is not a Transformer. Players will also have seen an older Dug at the end of the trailer and yes, that was Sebulba, who has a reason for being in the game, but the team are being coy on what that is.

The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but there is no release timeframe right now.
