Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 has been announced

Creative Assembly promised that they were going to reveal something big at The Game Awards 2025 and they delivered, sometimes these promises get broken but stranger things happen. The game was revealed by David Harbour, who is a self-proclaimed super fan of the Warhammer 40,000 series. Check out the announcement trailer for Total War: Warhammer 40,000 below.
For the first time, Total War steps into the far future, bringing its signature blend of strategic depth and cinematic warfare to the brutal, battle-scarred galaxy of Warhammer 40,000. If you are thinking that they have Total War Warhammer already released, you would be correct, in fact the have three of those, but this is a different sub-series. Like Transformers G1 and Transformers Beast Wars, same basic world, but vastly different ways to experience them.
“WARHAMMER 40,000 is a science-fantasy setting without equal. Its galactic scale, iconic factions, and brutal battles have contributed to a universe that gels perfectly with Total War’s DNA. We’ve worked with Games Workshop for over 15 years and can’t wait to continue that partnership with the aim of creating the definitive Warhammer 40,000 strategy experience just like we did with the Total War: Warhammer series.”
Set within a vast galactic sandbox, players will forge a warpath across the stars, bending the galaxy to their will as they crusade through an age of relentless war and conquest. The game sets out on an ambitious journey to create the ultimate strategy experience for the Warhammer 40,000 universe - one that will grow over time into a sprawling galactic battlefield, packed with iconic heroes, fearsome war machines, and richly-realised worlds.
One of the biggest additions to the game is that it will offer customisation across the board, letting you create an army that is your own and matching the entire point of Warhammer, painting figures. Players will be able to shape every detail from the faction’s title, heraldry, iconography and arcane wargear. Define their traits, sharpen their tactics, and unleash a signature style of destruction that leaves your mark upon the galaxy.
The game does not have a release date yet, but it is coming to PC and for a series first, will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time. In a move that is going to be known as one of the dumbest decisions ever, the game has not yet been announced for Nintendo Switch 2 and it may never be. Given that the series has been PC focused for the longest time, but has had ports to mobile devices, you would imagine that the only console with both a built in mouse and touch screen would be included in the release schedule, but it seems not.
