Ubisoft reveals the status of the Assassin's Creed series

There is no denying that the Assassin’s Creed series for Ubisoft is one of their biggest IP, the series has had 24 games across its main series, spin-offs and handheld offerings and more is coming. We have known about three of the games mentioned below, which is why they have ended up in our Missing in Action report from last year, but now we have news, well sort of.
In the video at the bottom of the page Jean Guesdon, who is the new Head of Content for the series provided updates on a few of the games, but there is really nothing of major substance, no dates, platforms or such, just confirmation they are all still happening. So let’s dive in.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is quickly approaching 1 year old, with it launching in March 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 players getting the game in December, those same players are also getting the games expansion next week. The game has been given a few updates since it first released, the most recent one being about parkour improvements, and come March 20, the anniversary of the release of the game, the team will begin to wind down support for it.
They have said that there will be updates released for the game still, but those will be smaller and less frequent, but a surprise or two is not out of the question. More details for that might be revealed in the live stream planned for next week.
The other known game to get some love is Assassin’s Creed Unity, which released originally back in November 2014. The update for this game will add a 60fps mode to the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which follows on from the update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate a year and change ago and the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey update from 2022. Will other older titles get updates again? It is unknown, but hopefully.
Now as for the games without releases, there are a few. First up there are the games we have known are coming and the one we begin with is Assassin’s Creed Jade, the mobile game. The last time we saw anything of the game was in August 2023 and the game was meant to release soon after, so who knows what is going on there. I would like to say that the update finally gave us information, but apart from it still be in development, there is no more news. This was how the game looked the last time we saw it.
Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE is the third of the games that were announced a few years ago, with Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Assassin’s Creed Jade being the other two. You can learn more about what the status is for the game on our Missing in Action report, but we did get a new update today.
The series Head of Content, yes the very man in the video below, Jean Guesdon has taken up the role of Creative Director on the project. This is not his first time in that role as he did the same for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins. The game is in development at the Montreal studio, for reference Assassin’s Creed Shadows was lead by Toronto and Assassin’s Creed Mirage was lead by Bordeaux.
The other update for the game is that they are taking their time, given it has been in some form of development for 2.5 years, I would hope they are not taking much longer, but the update did state they would reveal things when they are ready. So I imagine we are in for a long wait.
The third game we knew about, or knew was coming was Assassin’s Creed Codename Invictus. This is a PvP game and is being lead by a team that was created out of the For Honor series, which just recently celebrated the kick off of its 10th year. The only thing confirmed today was that it won’t be what online rumours are suggesting, which depending on the rumours you have read could be good or bad.
The Assassin’s Creed tv series from Ubisoft and Netflix was mentioned, but only in so much as they have news to share soon, and it could be soon soon, not later this year soon.
Finally, given that we are talking about Assassin’s Creed, the series that has more leaks than a boat at the bottom of the ocean, it was nice for them to finally confirm the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, or Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced as they are calling it. This is all they said about what is next for the series:
Speculation around Assassin's Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: "Nothing is true. Everything is permitted." Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon. 🦜
Now while they did not name the game then, they did drop a nice piece of art for the game, you can look at it below.
And there we go, all the details that were revealed today. As I said before, there was not a lot of anything of major note revealed, no dates for new games, no big updates beyond a 60fps update for a 12 year old game and a lot of teases about what is coming, most of which we already knew about.
If you want to hear from Jean below, you can watch watch the video, but most of it is going to be a recap of what you have already read to get down here.
