Resident Evil Requiem drops all new details via its latest showcase

Capcom have hosted another Resident Evil Showcase, this one being all about Resident Evil Requiem and with it came a lot of new details. Now it is important to know that some of the details below might be considered spoilers, so read on if you must, but with the game being out in a month, you can also wait.

One of the elements the team started out explaining was why Leon was back and why he was more action focused, given the recent original games being more survival focused. The answer, Leon is a badass and the team knew that no-one would want to see a Leon, who is much older, suddenly feeling afraid of things. So for those who want to kick ass you play as Leon and those who want the survival aspect, that is where Grace comes in.

A new move of Leon, is that he now sports a hatchet, a small type of axe. While he can use that to parry enemy attacks, Leon is best used when you shoot, so much so that the team have done their best to include fun ways to use guns. Perhaps the coolest thing for Leon is that he can actually use weapons that are dropped by enemies and yes, that includes the chainsaw.

Grace is not alone, while she is more about escaping and surviving, she can get guns to help her out. Grace is also smart and she can use those smarts to create new ways of attacking enemies, via the updated crafting system. This requires her to collect blood from her fallen foes, depending on what upgrades she makes, enemies can literally explode in front of her.

Grace also has an extra challenge to overcome, well if you select the Standard (Classic) difficulty. The game offers three, at least at the beginning, Casual will offer extra assists for players, so everyone can enjoy. Standard (Modern) removes most of those assists and the Standard (Classic) option adds in the need to use ink ribbons to save for Grace. There was no mention of Leon needing these, only Grace.

We also got a few extra details about the Porsche that Leon drives, the car is a standard car and the team at Capcom created extra that were added to the car. The team at Porsche then tested those in computers, then printed them and put them on an actual car, to ensure that it would still be driveable.

We also learnt that the watches both characters wear in the game are based off a real watch brand, Hamilton and the company worked with Capcom to create them, so much so that 2000 of each watch will be produced for people to buy. The American Classic Pan Europ for Grace has a local price of $2,150 AUD and the Khaki Field Auto Chrono for Leon is a staggering $3,350 AUD. You can register your interest here, with the watches going on sale the same time the game releases.

While we have known about the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller for a while and that a Grace Ashcroft amiibo is coming, they still have not shown that, we did learn that two new 1:6 scale figures are coming later this year. They can be displayed on their own, or you can pair them up so they are back to back. They also match the line-up of figures released already, which include Jill from RE3, Leon from RE2, Leon from RE4 and Chris from RE7.

If you are a fan of the music of the series, then you will be happy to hear that the Resident Evil 30th Anniversary Concert will go outside of Japan, heading to America and Europe, I doubt it will come down under though as these things never do.

The game has also picked up another platform, GeForce Now, the cloud streaming service from Nvidia. So if you game on PC, but don’t have the hardware needed for the new game, as long as you have the service, you can enjoy the game anywhere. Something for Nintendo Switch 2 fans to note, the Resident Evil Generation Pack, which includes Resident Evil Biohazard, Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Requiem, or 7, 8 and 9, will only be on sale until the end of March. It likely just means the bundle will end and then the older games can be bought on their own, but there is no confirmation of that at this time.

The game will release on February 27 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you want to pick up the game, you can check out our Bargain Guide, to ensure you only pay what you need to.
