Checking out the Lorcana Challenge Melbourne 2026

Melbourne recently hosted the first event of Season 2 of the Lorcana Challenge, which saw players from around the world descending on Marvel Stadium. The event ran for two days, with main events, side quests and more happening across the day.

We went to the event on the Saturday and got to see players putting forth their best cards, commiserating after a loss and sharing looks at their decks. Of course, given Lorcana features a lot of Disney characters, there was a lot of art around the place. The photos below are just a few of the giant banners that we spotted around the event and there were a lot more.

Sadly, we were unable to sneak out of the venue with any of those pieces, but maybe next time.

Everyone who was taking part in the event was given a goodie bag for signing up, which consisted of a booster pack, a lorebook and more. There were even more fancier options for those VIP players.

Of course, as this was a trading card game event, people were playing at the event. There were a few spaces for people to play, the main play space and the side quest. The main play space is where the rounds were taking place, with players playing off against other illumineers and there were a lot of folks around the place.

The side quest area was for more informal games, but also other challenges. Here players could take part in the Collector’s Quest, where after buying in, questers got 3 booster packs from the new Winterspell set and then had to find six cards to complete their sheet. The hook is that you can trade with other players doing the same event, ideally with someone who has a different sheet. We were treated to a round by Ravensburger and while everyone was starting off fairly quiet, as the cards started to be traded, things kicked off.

The Collector’s Quest was so popular while we were playing, they had to expand the area and one of the newcomers to the game managed to collect the new Pocahontas Enchanted card, and not 5 minutes later someone else got the card as well. While completing the challenge is fun on its own, those who did were rewarded with a rare promo card.

The folks from Modern Brands, who are the local group who manage Lorcana here in Australia and New Zealand, were also showing off the new Lorcana Puzzles. These are not required to play the game, but are just 1,000 piece puzzles, but the picture on each is the amazing art from the series, there is also a Mickey Mouse promo card in each set. If you want one, you can order them from Big W.

Events like this are not my normal thing, but I did enjoy my time there. The number of people that were having fun playing the game, but also sharing their love of Lorcana was great to see. The event is just the first of the season with more events happening across the year and around the world.

If you want to learn more about the game, we were able to have a chat with Nicole Kim, the International Product and Brand Manager for the Disney Lorcana TCG by Ravensburger. We also recently checked out the new Winterspell chapter and got a good idea of what is coming in Chapters 12, 13 and a tease for 14.
