What are PlayStation Studios working on... A look at their studios

2025 was an odd year for PlayStation, they had quite a number of original releases, but like in 2024, a decent number of them were created outside of the PlayStation family.

That does not mean they were bad games, but the internal studios were mostly quiet, with only a few dropping games for players to enjoy across the year. Of course, they did have Bungie keeping a host of content coming for Destiny 2 and MLB The Show kept bringing players back to the diamond across the year.

These are the games that were published in 2025, with those titles that are bolded being original releases:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - PC

  • MLB The Show 25 - PlayStation 5 | Switch | Xbox Series X|S

  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered - PC

  • Days Gone Remastered - PlayStation 5

  • Stellar Blade - PC

  • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach - PlayStation 5

  • Midnight Murder Club - PlayStation 5 | PC

  • Helldivers II - Xbox Series X|S

  • Lost Soul Aside - PlayStation 5

  • Ghost of Yōtei - PlayStation 5

While 2025 did not see any studio closures from Sony Interactive, there were a number of roles cut from a few studios globally including Bend Studio, PlayStation Malaysia and PlayStation VASG.

If you are curious to see how we did in years past, you can find our 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022 Previews here.

Over the previous 12 months, these are all the showcases that PlayStation hosted:

  • State of Play - Feb 12 - ~45mins

  • Borderlands 4: State of Play - Apr 30 - ~20mins

  • State of Play - Jun 4 - ~55mins

  • Ghost of Yōtei: State of Play - Jul 10 - ~20mins

BEND Studios

Known for: Syphon Filter, Days Gone | Last game released: Days Gone Remastered

Last year was the 6th year since Days Gone released and while many were hoping that the studio would reveal something new, especially with leaked screens from a 3rd person military shooter making the rounds, but it seems the studio had more plans beyond that. Days Gone Remastered brought the original game to PlayStation 5, complete with a wealth of new content, with PC players getting in on the fun as well.

So what about this year? Well that is the million dollar question now ain’t it. Last year saw the studio lose quite a number of staff and as of the time of writing they are currently looking for an Art Director and a Creative Director. Those two roles are generally the ones that define what a game is, how it plays and how it looks. The studio also got a new director of product management, which honestly gives the vibe that the studio is resetting. While they did Days Gone Remastered last year, they did have support on it, so I would like to think they have something else cooking, but I don’t think we will see it until later this year, at the earliest.

BluePoint Games

Known for: Demon Souls Remake, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection | Last game released: God of War Ragnarök

Bluepoint Games are a studio of remakes and remasters, they kicked off the PlayStation 5 with the remake of Demon Souls and then helped Santa Monica Studio make God of War Ragnarok. Since then the studio has been fairly quiet, but things might be changing. Last year they were staffing up across the board, with animators and artists, but this year, they have no open jobs.

I was able to find a mention of an unannounced game that is coming and talk of remake work. Now there is nothing to suggest the new game is a remake, but that is what the studio is known for. The question would obviously be, what game would be getting that remake treatment? The second question is will we hear about it this year? I think so, the studio has been fairly quiet since 2022, so 3-ish years feels like a good time between projects.

Bungie

Known for: Halo, Destiny | Last game released: Destiny 2

2025 was another busy year for the team at Destiny, I mean Bungie, as they kept the content coming for Destiny 2, including a Star Wars inspired update in Renegades just towards the end of the year. Of course, that was part of a grander narrative with the Year of Prophecy kicking off in July with the first expansion, The Edge of Fate, and between the two some smaller seasonal updates released. The studio was not resting on their laurels though as they were also working on Marathon, which got a release date at the end of last year, well sort of.

The 2026 release of Marathon is a continuation of the world that Bungie first created in 1994, and it has taken a while to release as the game as it was first announced back in 2023. The title had a few alpha tests, which helped refine the gameplay loop, which as an extraction shooter is quite important. The problem that the game has, at least as of the time of writing is that it has a release month, but no date. For some reason when Bungie announced the date, they did not put a day on it, just a month. I am sure that will change soon and as for the rest of 2026, expect a lot more Marathon and Destiny 2, as the studio needs players to play more of both.

FireSprite

Known for: The Persistence | Last game released: Horizon: Call of the Mountain

2023 was a big year for Firesprite as they were the first studio outside of Guerrilla to develop a Horizon game, though more have had that honour since, but they were the first. Since then though, they have been pretty quiet, at least on the PlayStation side of things, as they did join up to help on Star Citizen. But that was a while ago and since then, very little has changed for the studio. 2025 saw very little movement from the studio, so maybe 2026 will see that change?

I really hope so, because right now their only internally developed game is this Narrative Adventure game, the problem is that, it was the exact same 12 months ago. This time last year they were looking for a few folks, but now they are looking for a principal gameplay designer and senior artist, which are not usually the folks you want to hire near the end of a project. I would say that the team should be given time, but given they are also working on Star Citizen, I don’t know how many staff that is, I hope they are giving their own work the attention it needs. Firesprite also owns Fabrik Games, but given their official website is plastered with links to casinos scam sites, I don’t think they are doing much, if anything.

GUERRILLA GAMES

Known for: Killzone, Horizon | Last game released: Lego Horizon Adventures

Guerrilla Games is one of the few known names from PlayStation, they gained attention for their ‘Halo’ killer series in Killzone and while that series is good, it didn’t click the way PlayStation wanted. 2017 saw the studio gain a lot of attention when it released Horizon Zero Dawn and that attention has not really shifted away. 2025 saw their names in the credits of one game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, as the game was built on their engine and they provided support to Kojima Productions. They also popped up when the long rumoured MMO in the Horizon world was confirmed, with Horizon Steel Frontiers coming to PC, Android and iOS at some point in the future.

So what about 2026? Well the studio confirmed a few years ago that a new game staring Aloy was happening and they are still working on that. The studio has a number of open roles, with a few focused on animations with machines being a call out of that. There is also a combat designer role, which again fits the world of Horizon. The studio is of course overseeing the world on Steel Frontiers, but given that is being developed by NCSoft, I suspect its in a more guiding role than anything else. With 2022 the last time they lead a game themselves, plus the expansion in 2023, 4 years does feel like a good time to make something new. I suspect we will learn what their next game is this year, but it won’t release until 2027.

Haven Studios

Known for: Nothing | Last game released: Nothing

One of the few studios that has been in this series every year, where nothing has changed. The studio was founded in May 2021, then bought up by PlayStation in July 2022, with their debut game Fairgame$ announced a year later. 2025 saw a big change for the studio when its founder Jade Raymond left and while that was big news, it just left people asking, what the hell is going on. The studio has been almost radio silent since they revealed their game and according to job listings it is still in production, with a recent listing confirming it with the text “Our first game, a competitive action heist, is currently in development for PlayStation and PC.“

So what does that mean for 2026, honestly we have no clue. The studio has been really quiet, their social medias again being devoid of anything outside of their lifestyle at the studio. They have hired a few folks in the past year, including a UX designer, which does indicate that they are making progress, but I suspect they are really taking their time on purpose. We saw Concord bomb at launch, Destiny 2 is losing players and while Marathon has potential, it is could also just fail to grab. Given PlayStation have one current live service game, are about to launch another and had a third self-implode upon release, I could see this one being developed with extreme caution. If Marathon launches and does well, then I suspect this will be a late 2025 re-reveal, so as not to muddy the waters, but if that game bombs, I don’t think we will hear about this one again.

HouseMarque

Known for: Super Stardust series | Last game released: Returnal

Last year, we said this about Housemarque:

Given how quiet the studio has been, I would expect news this year, with an early 2026 release for whatever they are cooking up.

That turned out to be fairly accurate, as Saros was announced last February and dated for release just a few months ago, with it coming out in April this year. Given that the studio is going to be all in on that release, I doubt they have anything else to talk about. As the release draws closer, I would expect to learn more about the game, maybe via a dedicated State of Play and then for the rest of the year, there will either be DLC teased, or it will be radio silence outside of patches.

Insomniac Games

Known for: Ratchet and Clank, Spyro the Dragon | Last game released: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

After a few rough years of hacks and leaks, 2025 was good to Insomniac Games. No they did not have a release of a game but they finally revealed Marvel’s Wolverine. The game was teased way back in September 2021 and while the studio would focus on the web-head first, we always know that Logan was coming up after that release.

Now given the studio has a nice release schedule going, they tend to release a game at least 12 months after they announce, it is always possible that we get a release date for Wolverine for this year. The reason why I press X to doubt that is purely due to them taking longer on the Marvel games. Spider-Man 1 was revealed in 2016, released in 2018, Spider-Man 2 was revealed in 2021 and released in 2023. The outlier was the Mile Morales game, but that is because was originally DLC. Given that cycle, I would imagine we hear nothing about Logan until September when they usually host a State of Play. Of course, the studio has two teams and it is possible that the team has been cooking up something since the 2021 release of Ratchet and Clank and I don’t mean that mobile game. The studio is not looking to fill any major roles, so anything they reveal this year, could be a big surprise for all.

Media Molecule

Known for: Little Big Planet | Last game released: Dreams

It has now been more than 5 years since Dreams released and while the studio did release a lot of content for the game for a while, that dried up back in 2023 and since then, they have been very quiet. Last year we reported that they were working on something new and it was an all-new IP. They hired a few folks over the past months, including new writers and animators and currently are looking for a new sound person for a fixed term role.

Does that mean we will get their new game this year? No, but I would expect a reveal, the only question is when. If PlayStation want to release whatever this is this year, unlikely, but if they did, then the game would need to be revealed within the next few months. If however the game is a 2027 release, then I would fully expect them to be left alone until September at the earliest, only time will tell for this one.

Naughty Dog

Known for: Uncharted, The Last of Us | Last game released: The Last of Us Part II Remastered

2025 was an odd year for this studio, they came into the year having revealed Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, their brand new IP and then they ghosted everyone. Ok, that is not entirely true, but they were fairly quiet for most of the year. The studio’s name did appear in July when both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II released on PlayStation 5 in their Remastered versions. September also saw them continue their trend of revealing new things for the series, which in 2025 meant Magic the Gathering cards and a book containing the scripts of both games.

So what about 2026? Well, unless they have secretly been working away on something else in the background, they are likely to remain quiet for most of the year, outside of a trailer for their new game. Recent reports from Jason Schreier have indicated that the game has missed a few internal milestones and as such they are behind and as such needed to do overtime to get an internal demo ready. Of course, there is no confirmation to those reports, but the studio has had a history of things like that in the past, so I would lean towards them being true. Will that impact the expected 2027 release, unlikely, as PlayStation has a wealth of support studios they can call in, if needed.

Polyphony Digital

Locations: Tokyo, Japan | Fukuoka, Japan | Amsterdam, Netherlands | Los Angeles, USA

Known for: Gran Turismo | Last game released: My First Gran Turismo

There are only a handful of developers around the world that do one thing and one thing only and Polyphony Digital is one of them, they making a car racing series in Gran Turismo and that is in. Gran Turismo 7 was the last full game to release and has enjoyed pretty extensive DLC support over the last 3 years, the trailer below is for the pack that released in December last year.

The studio has not announced Gran Turismo 8 at this time and given the took 9 years from 6 to 7, I doubt they would. But they are staffing up, a lot of roles are open in their Tokyo and Fukuoka offices, and even some in their Amsterdam and Los Angeles locations, but nothing in them indicates anything special. The roles just highlight car design, sound design for cars and even AI programming for cars. I suspect that the name of Polyphony Digital will pop up across the year, but mostly in context of DLC and their GT World Series event.

San Diego Studio

Known for: MLB The Show | Last game released: MLB The Show 25

Much like the one above, San Diego Studio is another studio that does one thing and one thing very well. That thing is MLB The Show, which they have been making since 2006 and have not missed a year. The series went multiplatform a few years ago, well in the sense that it was not only on PlayStation and that is likely to continue with this years release.

MLB The Show 26 was announced back in November and the team have already released some details about changes coming to the new game. The only important things that we don’t yet know is what platforms the game is coming to, the last release came to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, dropping the last gen support for the first two. Will this year drop Switch and pick up Switch 2? Unlikely, the amount of players on Switch is quite high and MLB, the people who own the IP, want the game everywhere. Which is likely why we are going to hear about MLB The Show Mobile sooner rather than later. Of course, with the PlayStation Portable release way back in 2006, the series has already been mobile, but this is a bespoke version of the game, not a forced port. The main releases arrive in March each year and the 8 weeks leading up to it always reveal new details, I don’t expect that to change this year.

Santa Monica Studio

Known for: God of War | Last game released: God of War Ragnarök

While the studio is known for their work on God of War, they also create a heap of other games, or used to, with various external partners, it is how we got games like Calling All Cars and PixelJunk Eden. 2025 was a good year for the studio as they were able to celebrate 20 years of God of War, with updates to the game, a music release and more. But a lot of that was for God of War Ragnarök, which released in 2022 and then the Valhalla DLC released in 2023, the studio has not been wasting time, as they are already all in on their next project, but what is it?

Reports have been making the rounds that Cory Balrog, the director for the God of War game from 2018 is helming something all new for the studio, it is why he did not direct the sequel game. The studio have a half-dozen roles open and one confirms that it is for PlayStation 5 and if the rumours of it being in development since 2019 are true, that could mean we see it this year. Will it release this year? That is a long shot, but the studio is known for creating games in a quick turn around before, more so as they have support from Valkyrie Entertainment, more on them below. The studio has two teams and while it would be possible for something more but I suspect this year will be the reveal of the new IP and that is really it.

Sucker Punch Productions

Known for: Ghost of, Infamous | Last game released: Ghost of Yōtei

Given that the studio just shipped Ghost of Yōtei last year, the odds of them having anything new to share this year would be slim, right? Wrong, as the studio has already announced that a Legends update is coming this year, with only these details known for now. The studio has already down some patches for the game, along with adding New Game+ and I suspect they might have another one coming ahead of Legends. The Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime is also in development, but that is not going to release until 2027.

With the Legends release for Yōtei, still to come, we will hear from this studio quite a bit, but perhaps not just as much as we did in 2025.

Team Asobi

Known for: Astro Bot, The Playroom | Last game released: Astro Bot

2024 was a big year for Team Asobi, as they released the most Nintendo game ever on PlayStation and proved they know what they are doing as they won a ton of awards. The studio kept releasing levels across 2025, including the rage inducing The Great Master Challenge.

Given the team is quite small, around 60 people, I would expect them to be silent for a number of years, giving them a chance to work on whatever is next. With a PlayStation 6 rumoured release date of 2027, another tech showcase title from them at launch there, would make sense, but for now that is just speculation. I could also see Astro Bot to be the next game from PlayStation to make the jump to PC and if the team wanted to be funny, a Switch 2 port would be great as well.

Support Studios

These studios are owned by PlayStation, but play a support role in the company, usually assisting with development or ports of games to other platforms.

Adelaide Studio

Known for: None | Last game released: None

The Adelaide Studio is more a support studio for network related parts of PlayStation. While we might see their names in credits of games, they don’t actively work on creating games for PlayStation and that is unlikely to change in 2026.

Malaysia Studio

Known for: None | Last game released: None

The studio is now 5 years old and been working hard on many of the games you know from PlayStation. The Malaysian team is a support studio, so they come on board to help with games like MLB The Show and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Given their support and QA nature, hearing anything about original works is unlikely, but they do have talent, so I would say never say never, just not in 2026.

NIXXES

Known for: X | Last game released: Helldivers 2 (For Xbox)

Nixxes is PlayStation’s secret power, while the studios above make games, Nixxes makes them playable on more formats, fixes issues unknown or ignored by them and even helps with assets for them. Over the past five years the team have brought a number of games to PC, including Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and the Marvel’s Spider-Man series of games.

Their last big release was the Xbox Series X|S version of Helldivers II, with their name popping up in headlines when they helped drop the PC install size for the game by a lot. The studio is also a development support partner, so they have helped Guerrilla with Horizon and are currently supporting Housemarque on Saros. Now to what level, we don’t know but it is happening, but given the studio often works on many things at once, I would expect to see their name a few times in 2026.

San Mateo Studio

Known for: None | Last game released: None

San Mateo is the location of the PlayStation headquarters and where this team is located. While not a developer per say, they assist second party studios with their games, as well as providing support for the first party efforts where required.

As they are not going to headline their own game, you might spot their name in the credits of a release, but that will be it.

Valkyrie Entertainment

Known for: None | Last game released: None

Very much an unknown studio for PlayStation, Valkyrie Entertainment helps other studios brings their projects to reality, they are basically a second developer for a lot of games. Their most prominent release was God of War Ragnarök, but they also helped on the 2018 entry as well. The studios last recorded word was on Concord, but as that was dropped fairly quickly, they have likely just been helping out other studios with whatever is working on.

The problem is, as a support studio, they are often working on many things at once and until the credits roll on a game, we won’t actually know what games they were involved in.

Visual Arts

Known for: None | Last game released: None

This group is the one you might have heard of before, as their name popped up a few years ago when they were hit with layoffs. The group is primarily an asset creation studio, working with developers like Naughty Dog to create things for games, but they do help other PlayStation Studios teams as well. The big thing is that the group also works with non-video game companies, like creating things for TV shows and film. Given their diverse background roles, I would not expect to hear anything massive from the team this year, but I would expect to see their name in credits of a game or two.

There we go, PlayStation and what might be going for 2026. Now it is possible we got everything right, in which case I will go by a lottery ticket, or we could get not a single thing right or anywhere in between. What do you think PlayStation might be up to in 2026?
