What are Devolver Digital working on... A look at their studios

Devolver Digital is an odd duck, not just because they are odd, but they are an indie publisher that owns developers, which is not how the others work. Last year saw them release quite a number of original games, some were done by Devolver Digital themselves and a few were done by their label Big Fan Games.
These are the games that were published in 2025, with those titles that are bolded being original releases:
The Talos Principle: Reawakened - PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Shotgun Cop Man - Nintendo Switch, PC
Monster Train 2 - Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S*
Tron: Catalyst - Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S*
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition - PC
Anger Foot - PlayStation 5
Baby Steps - PC, PlayStation 5
Ball x Pit - Mac, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Possessor(s) - PC, PlayStation 5
Forestrike - Nintendo Switch, PC
Skate Story - Mac, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5
*indicates games published under the Big Fan Games lable
Sadly, while there were no studio closures last year, a number of staff were laid off from developer Nerial.
If you are curious to see how we did in years past, you can find our 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022 Previews here. For the list below, the first group is Devolver Digital’s own studios, the second is Big Fan Games, which is their IP focused publishing arm. The final section are the publisher deals, where Devolver is publishing a game from another developer.
artificer
Known for: Showgunners, Phantom Doctrine | Last game released: Sumerian Six
We said last year that Artificer would not have a game to release in 2025 and we were right, but our comments also did not expect them to reveal a game last year, which they did. Minos is the studios next game and is expected to launch sometime in 2026, the goal of the game is simple, protect the heart of the labyrinth. The catch is that you are the Minotaur and when you are spotted by enemies, they will attack you, so you need to use traps to take them out.
The team did launch a special Home Alone inspired variant for the holiday season, but the full release will happen sometime later this year. As we get closer to that, expect to see more updates on this rogue-lite, labyrinth adventure game.
Croteam
Known for: Serious Sam, The Talos Principle | Last game released: The Talos Principle: Reawakened
2025 saw Croteam released their remastered version of The Talos Principle onto PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and then they went silent. Well, not completely silent as they did release a few patches for the game and they updated Serious Sam 2 to be fully Steam Deck verified, ok yeah that last one is a stretch for news.
The studio is not massive, only around 50 people, so unless they bring Talos Principal 2 to Nintendo Switch 2, the first game is on Nintendo Switch already, I don’t think we will hear much from them in 2025 as they work on whatever is next.
Dodge Roll
Known for: Gungeon series | Last game released: Exit the Gungeon
Last year we said that 2025 was the year that the team revealed what they were working on and we were right as Enter the Gungeon 2 was finally revealed after a long wait from fans. The reveal was actually in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, confirming the game for the new platform and it was confirmed soon after for PC. Since that reveal we have not seen anything on the game, but it was confirmed to be coming sometime this year, so I guess for now it is a wait and see.
Doinksoft
Known for: Gato Roboto | Last game released: Gunbrella
It has been a few years now since we have heard from Doinksoft, as they last released a game back in 2023. The problem continues to be that they don’t really have an online presence, outside of an account on the platform that shall not be named. If the studio don’t release a game this year, then I expect that they will reveal it at least and given Devolver has a decent 2026 line up already, I could see whatever this is, pushed to 2027 just to give it a chance to breath.
Firefly Studios
Locations: London, England | Canton, USA | Aberdeen, Scotland
Known for: Stronghold | Last game released: Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Last year we said that Firefly Studios were working on something new and then low and behold in July 2025, Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition released, the only catch with that, it is not what we were talking about. The studio released Stronghold: Definitive Edition in 2023 and were working on a game called Stronghold Castles for mobile devices, but it has just vanished, but even that was not the game we expected to reveal. No they surprised everyone with a full remaster of Stronghold Crusader, which is a fan favourite of many and they kept updates coming through the rest of the year, with one coming just before Christmas.
No the game we were expecting was the all-new game, being created in Unreal Engine 5, which was something the team talked about a bit at the start of 2024. Since then though, they have mostly been radio silent on it, now given they are moving to a new engine, there will be some learning for the team to do, but it has now been over 2 years since they revealed they were doing it, I would imagine they have plans to talk about it this year. As for their existing games, I think both Warlords and Stronghold are done with content, but Crusader will get more across the year, the amount will depend on how much of the team are working on that, versus the new game.
Nerial
Known for: Regins, Card Shark | Last game released: The Crush House
2025 was a very quiet year for this studio for two reasons, the first is that 2024 saw them ship three games and the second is much sadder, with reports of 40% of the studio being laid off. Now given the studio was only reported to be around 20 or so folks, losing almost half is not great.
The studio do have something cooking, I did find confirmation of that, but what it is, that is unknown. Given the studios last three games were gambling/cheat simulator, space ruler and big brother mystery adventure, there is no telling what this new game will be. Given the studios smaller size, I expect that we might get a reveal this year, but beyond that, I suspect whatever it is, will release early next year.
System Era Softworks
Known for: Astroneer | Last game released: Astroneer
2025 was a big year for this group, they not only released a new major update to Astroneer, as well as releasing a heap of DLC and fixes for the game, they also rebranded their company to make themselves seem more fancy. Oh, they also announced a brand new game at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions. For all that was great for 2025, there was some bad, as the Megatech update that released, was reported to be absolutely busted by everyone, to the point the developers came out and issued an apology.
So what does 2026 hold for the studio? Well, we actually have a decent idea. First up for Astroneer, the team will continue to address the issues that were created in Megatech, with monthly releases of fixes and such, in fact the game is dropping the release of new content to give the team time to fix the various issues. You can read more about those plans here. The second thing expected from the developer this year is Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, which was only announced last year. The game is expected to come to Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2026, but given the teams size and the various issues impacting their current game, who knows if that is still the case.
Big Fan Games
Auroch Digital
Known for: Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Mars Horizon | Last game released: Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun - Words of Vengeance
For Auroch Digital, 2025 was a big year, they revealed that they were working with Big Fan Games to bring Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II to players this year, they also announced Warhammer Survivors, which is a Warhammer version of Vampire Survivors, and is being made with the team behind that game. They also somewhat announced Mars Horizon: 2 The Search for Life and to end the year, they announced Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War, so like I said a big year. The first one of those three is the one we care about here, because as we said, it is being published by Big Fan Games.
There are not a lot of details for the game yet, besides the two playable characters of Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath, but I expect we will see more of them as the game gets close to whatever release date the team have set for themselves. The first game was good, but had room to grow, so I have big hopes for the sequel, we just need to wait for that release date.
Publishing
Deepnight Games
Known for: Nuclear Blaze | Last game released: Nuclear Blaze
Tenjutsu has been in development for a while and Deepnight Games is making progress, the studio is just one person which explains the long dev time. The last update we got for the game was back in August 2025, which dove into the games origins, some weapons and more, you can read it here. Given that the game has never been given a release date, I fully expect this to be MIA until such time as its ready, because when you directed Dead Cells, you sort of have the space to take as long as you want.
Free Lives
Known for: Terra Nil, Broforce, Genital Jousting | Last game released: GORN 2
2025 was an odd year for Free Lives, they released Gorn 2 onto selected VR platforms, giving folks a chance to continue enjoying that series, they released a fairly large update to Terra Nil called Heatwave and they FINALLY released Stick It To The Stickman, well sort of. They also stepped into the world of publishing in November with Side Effects, which you need to see to understand. The game we care about here is actually already out in early access, which itself was vastly different to the version that I played back in 2022.
Stick It To The Stickman got some fairly consistent updates across the rest of the year, with the last major one launching in early December. The studio have not released a dedicated roadmap for the title, though they do have this fancy image below, there are no time frames attached to any single aspect. The studio could also have something else cooking, the catch is that they often work with some external groups to help create their games and we just don’t know who might be working on things now. As far as 2026 goes, right now Stickman is their only project, but I hope to see something else from this unique developer.
No Brakes Games
Known for: Human Fall Flat | Last game released: Human Fall Flat
Announced back in 2023, this game has been fairly silent, in fact the only thing we have seen on this games since its reveal, was when it popped up in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct back in April 2025. What is even more surprising is that, until that showing, as brief as it was, you might think the developers dropped the game as the first game which is turning 10 this year, is still getting content, last year alone saw a dozen or so updates released.
With no officially confirmed platforms, though there is a Steam page and it was in the Switch 2 Direct, and no release information, there is no telling what the hell is going on with this one. The team have almost forgotten about it on their various social channels, but I imagine there has to be some sort of update soon right?
Pigeons at Play
Known for: Mycopunk | Last game released: Mycopunk
Revealed last year and launched into early access, Mycopunk is a co-op, 4-player shooter, think Borderlands but roguelite and you have a decent idea. The game has been getting some pretty big updates across the year, with the last one launching just a few weeks ago, and the developers seem to have no plans on slowing down.
What does all this mean for you? Well, if the team hold true to their word then the game should release this month, as they have said that it will only be in early access for six months and as the game launched back in July 2025, that six months is now. Of course, they have not actually said that in any of their development updates, so I suspect it won’t launch just yet, but it won’t be far away from that 1.0 release.
Brigada Games
Known for: None | Last game released: None
The first game from this studio is Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, which was recently given a release date of tomorrow, you can pre-order it here. With the game out now, or just about, I expect the next few weeks to be busy with patches and other post launch issues and then the team will likely go back to being quiet. They have another game that they are working on called Alchemist Historical Simulator, but Devolver Digital are not publishing that one, or at least not yet.
Massive Monster
Known for: Cult of the Lamb, The Adventure Pals | Last game released: Cult of the Lamb
Cult of the Lamb continues to invoke new players to their way of enjoyment and later this month, a chill will wash over players as the Woolhaven DLC is released. After 3.5 years, this will be the first paid DLC for the game, which goes to show you how large things are going to be. The team are quite active on various platforms, interacting with their legion of followers, I mean fans, so I would expect to hear from them a lot across the year, but Woolhaven is first.
Jacob Janerka, Simon Boxer & Bone Assembly
Known for: Paradigm, Ring of Pain | Last game released: None
I know it seems weird to say that they are known for a game, but have not released any, the release is for the three of them together and so far, The Dungeon Experience has not been released, heck it does not even have a release date. Much like the final game in this list, the game has been in development for quite a while, but updates are even less known, with the developer admitting the game is still happening in April 2023, then going silent until Devolver Digital signed on in September 2025.
Given that there is no release information for this game and the developers less than stellar track record of delivering updates, I imagine this is going to be one that just plods along in the background, until it is ready to release. The only thing I can’t gauge right now, is if it will be a 1.0 release from the start, or if it will be an early access release.
Deconstructeam, Selkie Harbour
Known for: The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, Essays on Empathy | Last game released: Many Nights a Whisper
This one was only just announced last month, so there is a chance you may not have heard of it, but Virtue and a Sledgehammer is part therapy game and part destruction simulator. The game is expected to release sometime in 2026, but there is no date beyond the year at this time. Given the studios previous works, expect some emotional moments as you deal with android ghosts of your digitized neighbours. The studio is not known for pumping out status updates, so I suspect the next time we hear from them, it will be once they have a release date, or a demo, which ever comes first.
Team Lazerbeam
Known for: Teenage Blob | Last game released: Teenage Blob: Paperperson - The First Single
Shroom and Gloom was announced last year and has been fairly quiet since then, the problem is the studio already has another game in development, Wrestling With Emotions: New Kid on the Block and they are not a large team. The game was meant to launch into early access in 2025 and if you can’t tell by the way I wrote that last line, it did not release into early access.
They have released a fairly consistent stream of developer updates on Steam, which I appreciate, but none of them addressed the lack of early access last year, at least that I could see. Given their size and the fact that they have a second game in development and already missed their early access release, I don’t expect much in 2026 from them, but I am happy to be provem wrong.
Peculiar Pixels
Known for: None | Last game released: None
This developers debut title is Botsu, a game about robots taking part in a series of physics based sports, in order to prove who boots up the fastest. Ok, that last part is not true, but it is a competitive sports game, where players take control of robots and have to play while getting used to ragdoll movement. The last update was from back in July after the game was shown off at PAX East 2025 and was basically confirming that player feedback will be taken into account going forward, which means the developer will be quiet for a while.
Given this game has been in development since 2023 and only last year did Devolver Digital come on board as a publisher, one would hope that a release date is approaching. However given the developers many promises of things, such as an early access release that never panned out, I can’t imagine the date will be said, until its 150% going to hit. For now, I expect quiet on the field, as the developer takes more laps to get the game done.
That is time, to to reload this devolver, as we have reached the end. As you can see Devolver Digital have a lot going on and a number of things expected to release this year, and this does not count those random reveals that we are likely to see across the year.
Are you on board with this line up, or are you hoping for something else? Let us know your thoughts.
