What are Sega working on... A look at their studios

Sega have been quiet busy over the past few years and 2025 was no different. Apart making a new Like A Dragon game and remastering another, they also threw Sonic back into a kart, remastered a Space Marine and more. The big deal though was the return of Shinobi, which players seemed to enjoy and was the first from their efforts to bring back forgotten IP.
The company did let folks go in 2025, with Rovio being the only impacted group, reportedly due to an Angry Birds game underperforming, which you know, what a surprise.
These are the games that were published in 2025, with those titles that are bolded being original releases:
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. - PC
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii - PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
Two Point Museum - Mac, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Sega Group
Division 1
Known for: Like A Dragon, Super Monkey Ball | Last game released: Yakuza 0 Director's Cut
2025 was a big year for this group, they not only released Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, then later ported it to more platforms. Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 also got updates to modern platforms. They also released Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. onto a number of platforms, oh and we can’t forget that they actually started out the year releasing Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. But they still had more to talk about, as the Like A Dragon series, formally known as Yakuza, was celebrating 20 years last year.
The celebration kicks off in a big way as Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties arrives this February for most platforms. But what comes next, honestly I would imagine that some team inside the group is working on a Kiwami remake of Yakuza 4 or one of the spin-offs from that time, but even if they are not, there is still quite a bit to look forward. Last year saw Stranger Than Heaven get its full title and the release was confirmed to happen sometime after April 1st this year. The group is not stopping there as they are also working on a brand new Virtua Fighter and while I doubt that is going to release this year, I would expect we learn more about it. So this year, expect Yakuza Kiwami 3 next month, a potential remastering of another game in the middle of the year and Stranger Than Heaven at the end of the year, though that last one could slip to February 2027, we will see.
Division 2
Known for: Sonic, Puyo Puyo | Last game released: Sonic Racing CrossWorlds
2025 was an odd year for this group, they released the double whamy of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S and Sonic X Shadow Generations at the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Then later in the year, they released Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and cruised on for the rest of the year. Well not cruised, as they did release Minecraft and SpongeBob SquarePants DLC into the game and they are not done yet.
Pac-Man raced into the game last week giving racers a new track, characters and more to enjoy. But they won’t be stopping there, as Mega Man is still to come sometime in the future. Both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Avatar Legends are coming sometime in 2026, but we are still waiting on details for those beyond the names. As for what else is coming, the division have a few roles open for works like 3d action planner and motion designer, basically artists. One job I found did list experience with Unreal Engine as being welcome, so take from that what you will. I did also find jobs for Sonic specifically, but that is like finding a job at Nintendo for Mario, it just makes sense here.
Division 3
Known for: Phantasy Star Online, Jet Set Radio | Last game released: Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
2025 saw this group finally make progress on their reboot of classic Sega games, you know the thing that was first promised a few years ago. Before than though, Phantasy Star Online 2 kept pushing out updates and content across the year, with December getting a big update for the game. Of course, the big news is that Shinobi made a return and Art of Vengeance did quite well and players responded. Of course, while it was overseen by this group, the bulk of the development work was done by Lizardcube.
But what about 2026? A number of the open roles that I found for this group have flagged needing people with experience with smaller or medium sized games. I also found jobs needing experience with Unreal Engine 5, which would make sense with a game like Crazy Taxi, given the size of maps and speed at which things are needed. For those curious, I did also find jobs for the Sapporo Studio, which confirms that Crazy Taxi is still happening, so that is nice. Beyond more content for Phantasy Star Online 2, I have no idea what might come next for this group in 2026, but I hope they get crazy soon.
Division 4
Known for: One Piece Bounty Rush | Last game released: Persona 5: The Phantom X
The main mobile division for Sega, this is where many of the games that are designed for mobile first are developed or overseen. Their last work, The Phantom X, saw a lot of updates since its release in the middle of 2025 and even now a new update has launched this year. The group also oversaw the development of Sonic Rumble, though both games were made by external studios.
As for 2026, I have found listings for jobs that need Unity experience, which is fairly common for a mobile game. A few jobs also talk about both Persona 5: The Phantom X and Sonic Rumble, so I would expect that more plans are happening for both games. Due to their mobile nature and the fact that some games are outsourced to other studios, until they release whatever is next, we might not know what they are doing.
Division 5
Known for: Many | Last game released: Unknown
This group are the ones responsible for the arcade machines, which only a few leave Japan. A lot of what they are, are claw machines and other game based ones, which are massive in Japan. I have found a number of jobs for this group, but I doubt we will hear about them beyond those listings, unless they release them outside of Japan.
Atlus
CREATIVE DEPARTMENT 1ST PRODUCTION
Known for: Shin Megami Tensei, Devil Summoner | Last game released: Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
Last year saw this group bring Raidou back via a remastered release, which is part of the Devil Summoner series, which itself is a spin off of the Megami Tensei series, so it is all connected. The studio bucked the trend though releasing the game last year as they shipped Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance the year before.
So what does 2026 look like for this group? I really don’t know, I was about to find a few jobs for the group, but they are all generic in their listing, which does not help. Honestly, given they have done two games in two years, unless they have had another team working away on something in the background, I imagine this will be an off year for them.
CREATIVE DEPARTMENT 2ND PRODUCTION
Known for: Persona | Last game released: Persona 3 Reload
After releasing Persona 3 Reload in 2024 for most platforms, then again in 2025 for Switch 2, you might think this group would be quiet, but nope. Last year the studio announced Persona 4 Revival and apart from the teaser below, nothing more has been said about it. What is interesting about the game, is that when it was announced, the P-Studio director, Wada Kazuhisa, stated that they had more Persona in the works.
Does that mean Persona 6, or are we looking at a 6th spin off from Persona 5? Honestly there is no way of knowing, because the team is extremely tight lipped about all things Persona. The series is turning 30 years old this year, so I expect some surprises for it, but I suspect it will be more merch or an anime, rather than a game. As for Persona 4 Revival, I expect we will get a proper trailer for it sometime this year, but I don’t think it will release until 2027.
CREATIVE DEPARTMENT 3RD PRODUCTION
Known for: Catherine | Last game released: Metaphor: ReFantazio
Metaphor: ReFantazio turned a year old last October and while they had a little celebration and released the Guidebook Edition for the game, the team have been mostly quiet. They did announce a partnership last year with Hyte, so if you want a Metaphor themed PC case, they have you covered. I did find a job listing that could be for this team for a scenario planner, but if it is, then its early days for whatever it is for. Given the team took a long time to get Metaphor our the door, I don’t expect to hear from this group much in 2026, outside of a Switch 2 port of the game.
Sega Europe
CREATIVE ASSEMBLY
Locations: Sussex, England | Sofia, Bulgaria | Newcastle, England
Known for: Total War, Alien Isolation | Last game released: Total War: Pharaoh
After coasting for years on DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3, Creative Assembly had a pretty big end to 2025 when they announced two brand new games. Total War: Medieval III and then a few days later Total War: Warhammer 40,000 were both announced, the former being the sequel to the 2006 release of Medieval II and the latter being the studios first foray into space Warhammer. Both those games are being created on their new Warcore engine, which allows for battles of massive scale to take place, but there is something else going on.
A few years ago, a sequel to Alien: Isolation was announced to be in development and while they have not said anything since then, the studio does have a job for Unreal Engine 5, which is very much not Warcore. Now there is nothing in that job listing that states its for Alien: Isolation 2 or whatever it is called, but given they made a big to do about Warcore, I can’t imagine it would be for anything else. The studio has not put release dates on any of their projects, so I doubt they will release this year, but don’t worry Total War: Warhammer III will keep getting DLC for a while yet.
HARDLIGHT
Known for: Sonic mobile games | Last game released: Sonic Dream Team
2023 was when Hardlight last released a game, which was the mobile only Sonic Dream Team. Beyond that, they have been fairly quiet since, outside of content updates. Now I have been able to confirm that a new game is in development at the studio, but what it is, that is unknown. The studio are going to be supporting their various games that are in market still, so don’t worry if you play those. Now as the studio makes mobile games, there is no telling when it might release, the first time we hear about it could be the day it launches. If I were a betting man, given the studio was founded out of the old Sega Racing Studio, I would like to think a mobile version of Sonic Racing is coming, but only time will tell if I was right.
Rovio Entertainment
Locations: Helsinki, Finland | Stockholm, Sweden | Copenhagen, Denmark | Barcelona, Spain | Toronto, Canada | Montreal, Canada | Izmir, Turkey
Known for: Angry Birds | Last game released: Sonic Blitz
Last year saw Rovio release two games, one was in the Angry Birds series, the other was a Sonic game, clearly not wasting anytime after being bought up by Sega. Many of their other games also got updates across the year as well, which is pretty standard for a mobile game developer.
As for 2026, they do have a number of open roles and the only new game I can find is called Smash Ball and is being lead by Ruby Games, which is the studio in Turkey. Beyond that, all the other roles mention already released titles, though I did find one role that is to lead their Gen-AI team, or generative AI. Given that that particular topic is sort of toxic to gamers, I can’t imagine if people knew, they would be upset. For now though, expect content for their released games and beyond that, I doubt there is much new to see.
SPORTS INTERACTIVE
Known for: Football Manager | Last game released: Football Manager 26
After taking a year off, Sports Interactive were back in 2025 with the release of Football Manager 26, though they really need to fix their naming scheme. The game, apart from control inputs, is the same on all platforms, but its only officially called Football Manager on PC, on consoles it is called Football Manager Console, but that does not include Switch. No the Switch version of the game, that is called Football Manager Touch and is lumped against an iOS version of the game. Which you think would be called Football Manager Mobile, but no only the Netflix version of the game has mobile in the name, which is on Android and iOS.
I doubt that will change for 2026, though I do wonder where they will lump the likely Switch 2 release. The game did switch, no pun intended there, to a new game engine last year. That is why there was no 2024 release, as they needed more time. Right now all versions except the mobile game, that is the Netflix iPhone and Android version is still on the new engine. The Apple Arcade iPhone version is on the new engine, just to keep things confusing. 2026 will see a new version of the game coming, because they do one every year.
TWO POINT STUDIOS
Known for: Two Point Hospital, Two Point Campus | Last game released: Two Point Museum
After releasing Two Point Museum in early 2025, the game soon popped up again in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, where it was announced as coming, it did eventually release in October. Through out the year the game got 7 major updates, these usually added new content as well as refining elements of the game. They also did collaborations with Dredge, Revenge of the Savage Planet and Vampire Survivors.
As for 2026, I honestly think they will keep the content coming for the game. Past games have gotten a few updates over the years since they released, but Museum really pumped them out in the release year. The studio generally takes a few years between games, so while they might be working on Two Point TV Studio or Two Point Factory, I doubt we will hear about whatever is next until 2027 at the earliest. So for this year, more DLC and updates and not much else.
So there you have it, Sega and all their groups. Do you think there is more coming this year than what we have guessed, be sure to sound off and let us know your thoughts.
