Tokyo Disney Resort is looking at making some major changes to existing lands

As part of their financial disclosure release last night, the Oriental Land Company, the owner and operator of the Tokyo Disney Resort, revealed that they have some grand plans moving forward.
The group announced last year that they would soon be launching their own Disney Cruise Line ship, with an agreement by Disney to do so and construction on that is set to begin later this year in Germany, where all the other ships for the Disney Cruise Line have been built. In their release, they have stated that they are looking at getting a second ship.
They have also announced that they have plans to build more hotels around the resort, because right now, across their almost 4000 rooms, they run around 95% booked across the year, which leaves little space for more guests to stay within the Disney bubble.
Perhaps the biggest news though, was that the group and Disney are looking at ways to completely reimagine some lands in the existing parks. In Tokyo Disneyland back in September 2020, a new Beauty and the Beast mini-land was opened, which contains an incredible ride. Just last year in June 2024, Fantasy Springs opened at Tokyo DisneySea, the sister park and included four rides, three restaurants and one stunning hotel, which has direct entry into the park. In the future Tomorrowland in Tokyo Disneyland will get a Wreck-it Ralph attraction, as a replacement for Buzz Lightyear, it is set to open sometime in 2026, and the Space Mountain rollercoaster has been completely demolished and the new one is being built behind it and will open in 2027.
Now none of the work shown in the concept art below is confirmed, but it is more blue sky. That is the term that Walt Disney Imagineers use, when they are thinking of all the possible ways something could go. The land below is mostly Adventureland and normally within its borders you would see Jungle Cruise, Enchanted Tiki Room and much more, but not below. In the art we can see a Moana looking boat ride, what looks to me to be an Incredibles themed rollercoaster and a kids play area themed to Up.
For the sister park the change is not as drastic as the only attraction removed will be Aquatopia, based on the concept below. To the left of the water is where the existing attraction lives and in its place is a large building, which seems to have an olden day seaside aesthetic going on, which would fit into the lands sea and exploration theme. There is no telling what it might be inside the giant building though.
It is very important to remember that those concept art pieces above are just that, concepts. There has been no formal announcement of works happening, nor what those works will include. Out of the two pieces, I could see the Tokyo DisneySea update happening first, as Aquatopia is only a viable ride on a nice day, because it’s exposed to the elements far more than any other attraction in the park. Check out this POV video from YouTube channel Coaster Thrills below, to see what the ride is. I have ridden it in Winter, and I will never do it again, most of the jets were turned off, but it was still freezing.
Only time will tell if we are going to get anything new in the parks, well it is more question of when and not if, but even without the new updates, there is a lot to enjoy at Tokyo Disney Resort.
