The Hazard Zone proves to hazardous for Battlefield 2042

In a blog post on the EA Answers site, who knew that existed, DICE provided an update for Battlefield 2042, including confirming that Hazard Zone, one of their two new modes for the game, would no longer have any new content developed for it.

A lot of the news was shared via the below video, in which the author of the post Freeman, sat down with Senior Producer Ryan McArthur, and Creative Director for Battlefield 2042, Lars Gustavsson, to talk about the planned updates to the game and beyond.

The team have been updating the game a lot, with hotfixes and such, to correct some of the issues that players have been having since launch, that of course delayed the release of the first season of content.

The team though are ploughing ahead on overhauling the maps, one of the four key areas that they are focusing on, the others being Experiences & Modes, Gameplay and the development of New Content. You can see in the gif below, just some of the change potential that the game is getting.

Kaleidoscope, the map shown above, is just one of the ones getting some touch ups, with the team adding more cover and hazards, along with relocation flag positions and changing up how players can get around the map, with new corridors for movement and such.

The entire blog post is highly worth reading, as it goes into a lot of detail about what has been inspiring the team and the changes they are bringing to bare. As I mentioned at the top though, development on Hazard Zone is coming to a close, with following text about it, taken from the blog.

One final piece of news for you to take away from today’s video - we’re winding down future development on Hazard Zone. All of us on the team had great ambition and high hopes for this new Battlefield experience throughout our development, but we’re the first to hold our hands up and acknowledge that it hasn’t found the right home in Battlefield 2042 and that we’ll benefit greatly from letting our focus and energy stay on the modes we see you engaging most with.

Hazard Zone will stay as part of the experience, we’re not switching it off, but beyond addressing critical errors and odd behaviors that may appear in the future, we’re no longer actively developing new experiences or content for the mode, and you’ll find that maps that we release across our seasons will not be supported in Hazard Zone.

So while the mode will still be around, there will not be anything new developed for it going forward.

But what say you, are these changes enough to bring you back into the battle, or are you done with this less than ideal version of the beloved series.
