The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is coming in 2026

During the recent Nintendo Direct, Square Enix were on hand to announce a few things, one of which was a brand new IP in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, which is coming in 2026. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The game was announced in the Nintendo Direct, but it will also come to PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. For those with a Nintendo Switch 2, a demo for the game is available now

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millenium Tales introduces a fantastical adventure set in the world of Philabieldia—a savage land overrun by fierce beasts. When a mysterious set of ruins is discovered just beyond the protective walls of the Kingdom of Huther, humanity’s sole bastion, a young adventurer named Elliot and his fairy companion, Faie, embark on a perilous journey—one that will unfold across the fabric of space and time.

I’m very pleased to announce The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, the first action RPG in the HD-2D series. It features simple and easy to understand gameplay yet offers a deeply satisfying and challenging experience!

As the HD-2D series has expanded and evolved, we’ve gradually shifted genres. We started with a classic RPG with OCTOPATH TRAVELER and went on to do a strategy game with TRIANGLE STRATEGY. When we thought about where to go next, we felt that challenging ourselves to an action RPG would be a good direction.

It goes without saying that we want to deliver this game to all the people who enjoyed the games that we have made previously (BRAVELY DEFAULT, OCTOPATH TRAVELER, TRIANGLE STRATEGY, etc.), but I would be delighted if it could reach out to a new audience of gamers as well!

The duo Elliot and Faie will traverse a vast world teeming with enemy hordes, hidden caves and ancient ruins. Elliot can wield seven weapon types—ranging from close-quarters swords to versatile chains and sickles that can reel in enemies. Each weapon is customizable through magicite, allowing players to tailor their combat style. Faie’s powerful Fairy Actions are formidable in and out of battle, whether she’s striking enemies, retrieving hard-to-reach items, or aiding in exploration.

What makes the game unique, at least for a Square Enix RPG is that you can play the game solo or with a friend. If you play solo you can swap between controlling Elliot or Faie, but if you play with a friend you can both take control of a character. Faie has a number of abilities, the only one we got to see in the trailer was Sprint, which lets Elliot embrace his inner Flash.

The game does not have a release date beyond 2026.
