Steam Hardware is expanding in 2026 with Machine, Frame and Controller

Valve have been making hardware for a decade now, I still have my Steam Link and original Steam Controller, but it seems that the Steam Deck was just the beginning of their hardware resurgence as they have announced three new offerings.
Coming in 2026, exact times to be determined, they will release in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, along with Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan via Komdo. For those wondering, Australia will also be in the list of countries getting the devices next year.
This new trio of hardware offerings will offer up a lot of choice to gamers, starting with Steam Machine.
This is designed to be a gaming PC that sits under your TV, because the size of it is roughly 16cm by 16cm by 16cm, making it a cube, a gaming cube if you will. The machine will run SteamOS, so any games that run on Steam Deck will run here, but as this is a PC, you can also install other operating systems and programs.
It also supports a range of controllers, just like Steam does, so your existing hardware will work, or the new Steam Controller will as well. The specs of the machine are below.

Speaking of the new controller, the appropriately named Steam Controller is taking what the Steam Deck offers and basically cutting out the screen. But there is more going on than just that. The charging puck, which connects to the controller via the three little contacts seen in the picture below, is also the wireless receiver for the controller, so no pairing needed, just plug and play.
The controller will also sport magnetic thumbsticks using TMR technology, ensuring that any stick drift is kept to the lowest it can possibly be. On the grips of the controller will be a pair of sensors that Valve are calling Grip Sense. When you hold both, you enable gyro in the controller, but if you don’t care about that, you can remap them to just be other functions.

The final hardware reveal is Steam Frame, their new VR headset option, which also lets you enjoy non-VR titles as well. The headset can stream your games from your computer to it, but also allows for games to be ran from the device itself, no PC required.
The optics feature 2160 x 2160 LCD panels, one per eye. Supported refresh rates are 72-144Hz, ensuring clear and crisp visuals no matter the game, which pairs great with their new Foveated Streaming. Foveated Streaming is a new feature that optimizes detail where your eyes are looking, and typically offers over a 10x improvement in image quality and effective bandwidth. Behind the scenes, the headset uses low-latency eye tracking data to steer the best quality pixels only to where you're looking. This is all happening without you noticing, and works for your entire Steam library.
