Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord gets its first teaser trailer

We learnt last year that Maul was getting his own show and now we have our first look at it. The teaser trailer, which you can see below, gives a glimpse into the world of Janix and the machinations of the underworld that is changing as the Emperor begins their reign.

As fans would hope, Maul will continue to be voiced by Sam Witwer, who has been voicing the character in all their animated appearances and the ending of Solo: A Star Wars Story. This is a role he picked up from Peter Serafinowicz, who voiced the character in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Beyond Witwer, the cast includes Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots. The characters of Lawson and Two-Boots will soon appear in the prequel comic series, which was announced last year. Other additions include Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio Daki, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, David W. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Rebels alums Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast and Steve Blum as Icarus.

The shows main setting is Janix, a brand new planet for Star Wars. In addition to the crime syndicates and Maul’s undoubtedly underhanded dealings on Janix, the series will incorporate the burgeoning Empire in the period a few short years after Order 66, with appearances by Marrok, also known as The First Brother — and the rest of the Inquisitorious

It’s one part Gotham, one part Metropolis and a hundred percent Star Wars with all these different levels and layers. It’s a city essentially built into a crater on this planet that is untouched by the Empire. It’s got a functioning democracy and law enforcement doing a good job of policing their own community. It’s a rich environment for crime and gangsters, but so far there’s been a very peaceful accord between all of them in the interest of business.
— Matt Michnovetz, Executive Producer

There are 10 episodes in the series, which will air over 5 weeks, giving folks a chance to enjoy the fast paced show in a more traditional serialised format. The series will begin on April 6 on Disney+
