ROG Xbox Ally will release this October in Australia

Xbox have announced that both the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will release on October 16 in multiple countries around the world, including Australia. They also announced the Handheld Compatibility Program.

The only detail we did not get alongside the date were the prices, there are people claiming prices in the USA, based on what retailers had said, but those have all been removed. The ROG Xbox Ally would be the cheaper of the two, whatever the price happens to be, but we just don’t know what those prices are.

As for the Handheld Compatibility Program is just exactly what the name says. At launch, anyone who logins into their device will see games marked as “Handheld Optimised” or “Mostly Compatible”, which will let you know how they will perform. This is just like the Steam Deck Verified program, the mostly compatible would stem from things like text size that is not quite right for the smaller display. You can learn more about that in the video below.

Xbox also revealed that two new features will be included with the device, they are:

  • Advanced shader delivery: A new feature that preloads game shaders during download, so select games launch up to 10x faster, run smoother, and use less battery on first play.

  • New upcoming AI-powered features starting early next year on the ROG Xbox Ally X that enhance play, including:

    • Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR): A system-level feature that uses the power of the NPU to upscale games running at lower resolutions—delivering high-resolution visuals and smooth framerates across a wide range of games, with no additional changes required from game developers.

    • Highlight reels: AI captures your standout gameplay moments—like epic boss battles or victories—and generates short replay clips for you to share with friends or on social channels.
