Head back to the streets as Need for Speed Unbound reveals its Year 2 content plans

Electronic Arts and developer Criterion have revealed that a new year of content is on the way for Need for Speed Unbound, including some updates that take inspiration from some beloved games in the series past.

2024 will also mark the 30th anniversary of the series, with The Need for Speed launching for PC, PlayStation 1 and the 3DO console back in 1994 and since then more than 30 games have hit consoles, PC and mobile devices. Ok, so enough history what is on the cards for Year 2, well thankfully we have a roadmap, which seems very accurate for a racing game.

Now the details on each volume are not revealed, but there are some extra details that we do know. First up is that the game is getting a premium pass, yes pay to earn content is coming to the game.

Called the Premium Speed Pass, players who buy it will gain instant access to one vehicle in the update and all the custom versions of it as well. Thankfully those who opt not to buy it can just enjoy the game on its own as well and unlock content by playing the game still.

The content of the packs will be the same, in terms of at least what you can look forward to, with at least one new major mode added to each volume. There will also be more events, more challenges, new content, Ranks to earn, and new progression to chase and of course, more cars.

By cars that does not mean just your latest car made for the real world, but rather cars in the NFS sense, like no one else creates. That means that it won’t be base models here and stock paint there; instead they mean cars that come with fully customisable body kits with a myriad of interchangeable parts so you can tweak your ride just the way you want it.

Finally each update will include a host of updates and patches, with player feedback helping to drive, pun intended, the scope of what gets worked on, so comments back to the developers will help with that.

As for when the first volume of year 2 will kick off, that we don’t know, but I expect it to be in the next few days.
