Need for Speed Unbound is racing onto next gen platforms this December

After a more than three year gap between releases, the largest since the original game and its sequel, Electronic Arts have announced Need for Speed Unbound, an all-new entry in the iconic racing series, that is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC on December 2nd, check out the reveal trailer for the game below.

The developer for this entry is Criterion, who last released a game in 2012 with Most Wanted, EA Gothenburg who then became Ghost Games were the lead for the last few mainline entries, ending with 2019s Need for Speed: Heat.

In Unbound, players will be greeted with an all-new visual style that blends elements of street art and the realistic cars that you can see on the roads of the world. The world of the game though is Lakeshore, home to a big racing scene and some very competitive racing groups.

For those looking for a single player only experience, the game will offer a new story to experience, as you race to the top and with The Grand. Players uncover the world of Lakeshore when a robbery at a family auto-shop tears two friends apart and sets a rookie racer on a journey to win the ultimate street race and reclaim the priceless car that was stolen from them.

"Need for Speed Unbound is all about self-expression, taking risks and disrupting the status quo by just being you - through your racing style, unique car builds, fashion, music and much more,” said Kieran Crimmins, Creative Director at Criterion Games. “We are inspired to create a truly authentic universe where players see themselves represented in the game. The visual experience of Unbound redefines expectation, with a new signature art-style that brings graffiti to life, intensifies the competition, and creates adrenaline-inducing, high-speed action.”

One of the big things in the game is the visuals and it isn’t just for photos, the graffiti will come to live, based on how you drive, for example if you use Burst Nitrous, you will get a unique high-energy visual, plus sound effect, all in-line with your driving style.

In addition, the cops will play a big part in this game, as the more players in a race, the more heat gets built up and if you can escape the cops, using some new moves, you will get big rewards, but if you get caught the consequences will be massive.

The game will offer a deep level of customisation for both cars and characters, featuring a host of real world brands for both fashion and cars.

Finally, while the game is launching on December 2nd, EA Play members can access a 10 hour trial on November 29 and there will be free post launch update for the game, which include:

“new features, experiences, content drops and more”

At least, accord to EA right now, more details will be revealed soon it seems.
