Games of December 2020

Can you believe it, we are in the final month of 2020, which means there are only a few more games to release this year and what a year it was. But more reminiscing later, this is all about new games and for that we have to go below the line.

There are a few big names this month, as well as some returning series and a few new ones, but let’s be honest, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to dominate the charts, so without any further delay, here we go.

Kicking off the month is the return of Worms and there is no medication required for this, as the game is out today for PlayStation 4, PC and PlayStation 5, with the two consoles getting the game as part of the PlayStation Plus membership, so yeah.

This is not the old Worms you remember, it is now 32 players in a free for all battle, in real time, with modes like Deathmatch and even a Battle Royale mode. Perhaps the most exciting news, the game is cross-play supported, meaning that if you are the only one of your friends to have a PlayStation 5 (go you), then you can still play with those on the PlayStation 4.

Sam and Max are back, well sort of. This is not a new adventure, but a remaster of the first of the WiiWare games that were developed by Telltale Games. Sam and Max were created by LucasArts and followed behind other point and click entries like Manic Mansion and Monkey Island.

With enhanced graphics, new widescreen and gamepad support, five new musical tracks, and the same brain-tickling puzzles and offbeat humor that won it plenty of awards, Sam & Max Save the World is a modern classic that you'll love to play—or play again.

What happens when you combine the love story of Romeo and Juliet, with the adventure of No Man’s Sky, well you get Haven, or something like it. You take control of two star crossed lovers, who attempt to make a home on a planet without other humans, but a lot of corruption.

Glide through a mysterious landscape, explore a fragmented world and fight against what’s trying to tear them apart in this RPG adventure about love, rebellion, and freedom.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a new title from Ubisoft that takes a lot of the exploration from the more recent Assassin’s Creed titles and blends it with full on Greek mythology. You are Fenyx, someone who survives a ship wreck and finds themselves on the island where the Greek Gods live.

You will have to explore the land, discover mythical creatures, solve mind-bending puzzles and master god-like powers in a quest to save the Gods and the world from the clutches of Typhon.

Drawn to Life was created by the team at 5th Cell, who also came up with the Scribblenauts titles, but unlike the former, this one is all about seeing your drawings come to life.

The quirky Raposa and your drawn hero return in Drawn to Life: Two Realms, the next installment in the beloved franchise! Uncover the mystery of the Shadow and save Mike and his friends.

Call of the Sea is an otherworldly tale of mystery and love set in the 1930s South Pacific. Explore a lush island paradise, solve puzzles and unlock secrets in the hunt for your husband’s missing expedition.

It is 1934, in the far reaches of the South Pacific. Norah has crossed the ocean following the trail of her missing husband’s expedition and finds herself on a lush island paradise - a nameless, forgotten place, dotted with the remnants of a lost civilization. What strange secrets does it hold, and what might Norah unearth in her quest for the truth?

Japan’s beloved puzzle game series Puyo Puyo and the world-renowned Tetris game franchise have teamed up again to deliver even more Puyo-popping and Tetrimino-clearing fun in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. Playing is easy: match 4 or more same-colored Puyos or complete a line of blocks to clear them from your board and dump Garbage into your opponent’s game. But keep an eye on what’s coming your way too.

Play traditional Puyo Puyo and Tetris…or mix them together to level up your game. Offline or online, you’ll have loads of modes that let you play the way you want from single-player Adventure to couch-competition Versus to ranked Online matches, and more.

I really shouldn’t have to say anything about Cyberpunk 2077 at this point, the game has been building up hype for years, but here we go. You play as V, a ‘insert backstory here’ who has decided they want to do things their own way. You take on a mission with your friend Jackie, to steal a biochip, but the plan goes wrong, Jackie is killed, the case containing the chip is damaged and the only way to save it, is to put it in your head.

When you come to later, you start to see the ‘ghost’ of Johnny Silverhand, lead singer of the band Samurai oh and small time anarchist, who is also played by Keanu Reeves. What you do and how you do it, is entirely up to you, so wake the f*** up, you have a city to burn.

Did you forget that there was a Medal of Honor game coming out this year, don’t worry, you wouldn’t be alone in that, maybe because the game is VR only, which is still a limited tech. What is not limited is the talent of the developers behind it, as the game is being created by the games at Respawn Entertainment.

Take the fight to war-torn Europe in Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. The franchise returns to its roots complete with a deep single-player campaign, multiplayer modes, and powerful interviews with survivors and veterans of the Second World War.

The Collection of SaGa: Final Fantasy Legend brings together the original Game Boy titles SaGa, SaGa 2, and SaGa 3 as one great package for the Nintendo Switch to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of SaGa.

Discover these classics brought to life with all-new features including speed boosts, a new retro display mode, and new commemorative music and art. Further modify your play with adjustable screen magnification and game screen background customization. You can also take your collection on the go with handheld mode or revive the nostalgia of playing the originals by removing the Joy-Cons and turning your Nintendo Switch vertically for a retro Game Boy experience.

So there you go, the last games of 2020, do any of them strike your fancy, I know there are a few I can’t wait to play.
