Borderlands 4 makes the first Bounty Pack free, adds a 5th one as well

2K and Gearbox have released the first Bounty Pack for Borderlands 4, but in a change from what was planned, the pack is free to all players, letting everyone embrace the holiday season that is Mercenary Day. Check out the launch trailer for the new addition.

If you already own the Deluxe, Super Deluxe or the Bounty Pack Bundle, you might be asking why something you paid for is now free for all, well it seems that the team at Gearbox figured this was not right, so they have added a fifth bounty pack.

So, there will now be five packs in total, the first pack is live now and free for everyone, but the remaining packs will need to be bought, either on their own or as part of one of the options above. Ok, with that out of the way, what do you get with this new bounty pack?

In How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, Rush wants to celebrate the holiday, but Minister Screw, a strict Timekeeper, tries to keep things dull and the same for everyone. Players will complete new missions to show Screw what Mercenary Day really means, and they might earn new Legendary loot.

Bounty Pack 1 includes a Vault Card with new rewards unlocked through playing. It offers 24 cosmetic items and four pieces of gear that can be rerolled for better stats. You can reroll these gear pieces as many times as you want to fit your build. Bounty Pack 1 is free for all players in the November 21 update. After updating, find the wrapped gift in any major hub (marked on your map) to start the mission and help Rush.

You can learn about the content included in the Bounty Pack and the rest coming here, as well as get some insights from Randy and Sam, two of the folks from Gearbox who I chatted with at PAX Australia 2025.

There is still another content drop coming this year when the first Invincible Boss is added to the game. Bloomreaper the Invincible offers tough endgame fights that test your skills and builds in a new arena. Each Invincible boss has huge health, strong attacks, and new challenges, making them the hardest enemies so far. Powerful new Legendary items reward players who beat these monsters. The update also raises the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode level cap by one.

2026 will see new content flowing, with the four remaining Bounty Packs, the first Story Pack coming in Q1 2026 and the return of Takedown. Just like the fan-favourite Takedowns in Borderlands 3, players can expect an extremely challenging gauntlet through a new area, including hordes of enemies and a challenging final boss.
