A new way to grow your physical games collection is coming via Lost in Cult

Lost in Cult is not a name you have likely heard of, they are specialists in creating books that dive into everything about select video games. Some of their recent works include Animal Well, Outer Wilds and Eastward, but it seems they have more plans in store as the group are expanding into physical game releases.
Now these are not going to be the latest and greatest AAA titles, but rather a curated collection of indie titles that have captured their attention and that of the gaming public. The group have confirmed that, at least for now, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch are the only platforms getting the attention, but Nintendo Switch 2 will be added in the future.
The first wave of games that are getting the spotlight are Thank Goodness You’re Here!, IMMORTALITY and The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow.
“We’re being bold. I can unashamedly say we set out to create a new standard for physical games. And this is a multi-faceted mission. Our EDITIONS are designed to preserve not just the game, but the story and artistry behind its creation. At the same time, our retail releases ensure no one is locked out of owning great games physically, giving everyone a chance to play their favourites for the decades to come, internet connection willing or not.”
The best news is that the team are working with DoesItPlay?, an international community dedicated to the preservation of video games and their respective systems. This means that if you buy one of the items and pop it in your console it will work, no updates needed, just insert it and enjoy.
The games are limited, with both PlayStation 5 editions of IMMORTALITY and Thank Goodness You’re Here! coming in at 1500 units, with Thank Goodness You’re Here! and The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow on Nintendo Switch getting 3000 units each.
Each release includes:
Exclusive outer slipcase with original commissioned artwork.
Variant cover for the retail case inside.
Developer signature card and a set of art cards.
Fold-out poster and collector’s checklist.
Custom sticker.
A prestige booklet edited by acclaimed Edge Magazine alum Chris Schilling, including developer interviews and analytical essays.
All-new artwork across packaging and even the mailer box - with three designs rotated seasonally.
But wait, there is some great news as all games, these three and the future efforts are going to be sent to retail stores as well. This means that if you want a game that they are doing, but either don’t want or can’t afford the EDITIONS, their name for the fancy ones they make, you can just get the game on its own.
Now for Australia a local partner has not been revealed, but the team are working with PM Studio to bring them to retail globally. The group in question were responsible for the retail release of Black Myth: Wu Kong, Honkai Star Rail and Bakeru.
The other piece of news, which I confirmed before I considered writing the story up was that the team will ship to Australia. That means you can order the EDITIONS release of Thank Goodness You’re Here and enjoy everything included, the best news, shipping is affordable.
At the time of writing shipping any of the EDITIONS comes in at £12.00 or around $25 AUD, which is really good. Now as with most other places that are doing these sorts of releases, they will take a few months to put together, but they will advise you of shipping windows before you place your order.
Here are some looks at each of the releases available to pre-order now,
