8BitDo are releasing a Rare 40th anniversary controller

8BitDo and Rare have announced a new 40th anniversary themed Ultimate 3 Xbox controller, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Rare, who began making games in 1985.

As far as insides go, it is almost the same as every other 8BitDo, but this one is just designed to work with Xbox consoles. Of course, while the tech inside is similar, it is the outside that has been given some special attention.

Wrapped in signature blue and gold, this special edition features symbolic patterns, game-inspired silhouettes, and playful Easter eggs—a tribute to the legacy Rare brought to life.

That is what 8BitDo have said about the outside and I for one think it looks quite spectacular.

As you might expect it is designed to work with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles via the included dongle, but it will also work with Windows, Apple and Android devices, the latter two via Bluetooth. It features the latest version of the Hall Effect sensors and the Xbox impulse triggers, so it will be smoother to control, but still retain some Xbox charm.

The full tech specs can be found here, but the important one is that they are advising 20 hours of play time, from a 4 hour charge. You can order them today, either directly from 8BitDo or through Amazon, but local options have not been confirmed yet, but it should be available here soon.
