The Sonic State of Origins Plus will be raising money for cancer research

With Sonic getting ready to celebrate 32 years and the release of Sonic Origins Plus, Sega, Five Star Games, Game on Cancer and Aus Speeduns are all coming together to help raise money for cancer research.

Taking place on Friday June 23rd at Fortress Sydney, the event will see the best of Australia’s Sonic the Hedgehog speedrunners, battle it out for their home state, in order to be crowned the fastest around and the winner will take home a very special shield.

So where does the raising funds come in? Well all parties involved in this event are donating proceeds to Cure Cancer, an Australian charity. Cure Cancer's gaming initiative, Game On Cancer, brings together the gaming community to support early-career cancer researchers working across all cancers and areas of cancer research.

As this is a state of origin themed event, there will be two teams, the red and blues, with Queensland fielding a team in red jerseys and represented by Knuckles as their mascot, their runners Raikou (c), Stylonide & The8bitbeast. They will take up controllers to beat the New South Wales team of Werster (c), 3Pills and LaceyStripes in their blue jerseys, represented by Sonic

Tickets are on sale now for the event, you can get yours here, but if you don’t live near Sydney or don’t want to travel to it for the event, it will also be streamed on the Twitch channel for Aus Speedruns.
