The long rumoured Black Panther game is official, but still a while away from release

After years of rumours, Electronic Arts have officially announced that they are working with Marvel Games to create a new Black Panther game, with their newest studio Cliffhanger Games leading the charge.

The studio was founded in 2021 and the talk of their first game was almost instant, we reported on it in our What Are EA Working On feature, none of which was helped when EA and Marvel Games announced a new partnership for games, the first one being Iron Man.

The studio and game are being lead by Kevin Stephens, who worked at Monolith Productions (not to be confused with the Xenoblade studio Monolith Soft). His work covered the Middle-earth: Shadow of series.

We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich Super Hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.

It’s an incredibly rare opportunity to build a new team around the values of diversity, collaboration, and empowerment. We want our game to enable players to feel what it’s like to be worthy of the Black Panther mantle in unique, story-driven ways, and we want Cliffhanger Games to empower everyone on our team as we collaborate to bring this amazing world to life.
— Kevin Stephens, Cliffhanger Games

There are no specific details on anything else though, no platforms, release window or even casting on who will play the Black Panther. Given the studio is stating years before we see it, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC are the likely platforms, but who knows maybe the next Nintendo platform will also deliver the goods and get it as well.
