All the Star Wars games that are in development today

As today is May 4th, what is now known as Star Wars day (may the fourth.. may the force.. yeah..), we thought it would be fun to take a look at all the Star Wars games that are in development.

We are looking at any officially announced, so sorry to all who have heard about your cousins, uncles friend who is working with a guy who knows a gal who said they know someone who is working on a game, that won’t be included here. This is list is the officially revealed games, including who is working on it and what platforms it may release on and what date it may release.

A lot of this is going to be guess work, predictions and good old fashion hopes, but still as my name is Luke, maybe I will just use the force. Of course, with Star Wars Celebration taking place at the end of May, we may find ourselves covered in Star Wars game news from the event.

Star Wars: Hunters

Developer: NaturalMotion | Release Date: 2022 | Platforms: Switch, iOS, Android

First announced back in the February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Hunters is a team based 3rd person shooter, that pits two teams in fierce combat. The game was meant to release in late 2021, but was pushed out to give the team more time to ensure that the quality was there.

There isn’t a specific story for the game, but it is set within the Galaxy after the fall of the Empire, so soldiers from the Empire and the Rebels are now looking for new ways to get their thrill on. With new different character classes, from those that deal damage, to those that heal, working with a team will be important, if you want to win, check out the latest video for the game below.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Sequel

Developer: Respawn Entertainment | Release Date: 2022 | Platforms: Unknown

Announced earlier in the year, the sequel to Respawn Entertainments Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, will continue to follow Cal Kestis, but beyond that we know very little about the game.

The full reveal is expected to happen this month, likely at Star Wars Celebration, but even that is up in the air, heck there are rumours floating around now that the game won’t release this year and will aim for early 2023 and drop last gen consoles from its line-up.

Star Wars Eclipse

Developer: Quantic Dream | Release Date: Unknown | Platforms: Unknown

Revealed at The Game Awards 2021, Star Wars Eclipse is an all-new adventure game from the studio behind Detroit: Become Human and other narrative focused games. This game is set during the era of the High Republic, which is about 200 years before The Phantom Menace.

We know that Yoda will be in the game, along with it being set in an uncharted area of The Outer Rim (Tattooine is located around there as well). Choice is set to be a big deal for this game, with the choices you make shaping the story for you, meaning that no two playthroughs, can be exactly the same.

Star Wars: Open World Game

Developer: Massive Entertainment | Release Date: Unknown | Platforms: Unknown

An open world Star Wars game, from Ubisoft the developer with the most open world games to their name and developer Massive Entertainment, creators of The Division, seems like a match made in heaven. Sadly, beyond the reveal of the game, there is little more that we know about it and for sure it won’t release this year as the studio is working on the Avatar game as well.

We do know that it will be a story driven, open world game, the question remains, will that be like Assassin’s Creed or The Division.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Developer: Aspyr Media | Release Date: Unknown | Platforms: PlayStation 5, PC

Revealed during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, this remake of the classic Knights of the Old Republic, will take players back to a few thousand years before the Republic, where they can get to create their own tale all over again. The game is set to be a faithful remake, what that means is anyone’s guess, expect some modern updates at least to the game, but the story will be the same.

As of now, the game is still in early development, but we know that once it does release it will hit both PC and PlayStation 5, much like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, with the PlayStation 5 getting console exclusivity for a limited time.

Star Wars: FPS

Developer: Respawn Entertainment | Release Date: Unknown | Platforms: Unknown

Announced during the same press release that confirmed the Jedi Fallen Order sequel, this new first person shooter from Respawn Entertainment has very few details about it. We know that Peter Hirschmann, the writer and producer of the original Medal of Honor games and former VP of Production at LucasArts, along with being the director of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, is directing the game.

Development on the game had only just begun, at least according to EA when it was announced, but Hirschmann did have this to say:

“Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell.”

As someone who has overseen dozens of Star Wars games in his career, this could be the best Star Wars FPS ever made and given that Respawn also make one of the best modern day shooters in Apex Legends, it seems like a match made in heaven.

Star Wars: Strategy Game

Developer: Bit Reactor & Respawn Entertainment | Release Date: Unknown | Platforms: Unknown

When Firaxis Art Director, Greg Foertsch announced his new studio Bit Reactor, many assumed that he was going to focus on strategy games, it is what his work was known for. Only days later, it was announced that the first game would be a joint production with Respawn Entertainment, to create a new strategy game, set within the world of Star Wars.

There is no other details beyond that, we know that the studio has big plans for the strategy genre, aiming to blur the lines between what a strategy game can be, but other than that, your guess is as good as ours. One thing we do know is that development only just started recently, so unless they are true miracle workers, this game is going to be a while away from release.

Star Wars: Narrative Adventure Game

Developer: Skydance New Media | Release Date: Unknown | Platforms: Unknown

This is the game that we know the least about, it is also the one announced the most recently, just the other week in fact. What we do know is that Amy Hennig, the former writer of the original Uncharted games, is leading the development on this new game and it will be a narrative adventure focused title, much like the cancelled game from Visceral Games.

Beyond those details, we know little else about the game, because of it being so new and it only just starting development. Given the level of attention that Hennig brought to the PlayStation 3 Uncharted games, this could be one amazing adventure, but only time will tell.

So there you go, all the publicly known Star Wars games, that are coming your way sometime over the next few years. Hunters was due to release in the first quarter of this year, so it being delayed is a little worrying.

Given that most of these games are very early in development, I wouldn’t hold my breath to see them any time soon, but maybe the force is with them, only time will tell.
