Pokemon Sword and Shield Expand in 2020

In the Pokemon Direct that ran early in the morning, Pokemon and Nintendo announced that Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will both be receiving expansion passes that add new areas to explore and over 200 more Pokemon to find and catch.

In order to access the new content, you need to get the pass and there are two types, one for each version of the game, the Sword Expansion Pass and the Shield Expansion Pass, so make sure you select that one you need.

Those who buy the pass will also receive some special outfits to wear, one featuring Pikachu and one with Eevee on them, but all players, regardless of you buying the pass, will see a special new Pokemon appear in the game that you can get, Galarian Slowpoke.

The first expansion is called The isle of Armor and in it, you will head to the Isle of Armor, catchy, and here in this location you will discover wave-swept beaches, forests, bogs and more. This first area is set to arrive by the end of June 2020.

This new location is also home to many exciting new Pokemon like Urshifu, shown below, an evolved form of Kubfu, with a special Isle of Armor form as well. Plus many Pokemon who did not appear in the regular Galar region will arrive in this new area, these new Pokemon though won’t require the pass, they will just arrive at the same time.

The second expansion is called The Crown Tundra and will let you explore The Crown Tundra, complete with winter mountains that dot the frigid landscape. This second area is set to arrive in Spring 2020

In The Crown Tundra, you will discover even more new Pokemon like Calyrex, shown below, a Pokemon that is said to have ruled over Galar in ancient times. Again, more classic Pokemon can be discovered in this region as well, these new Pokemon though won’t require the pass, they will just arrive at the same time.
