When The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was leaked for Switch, there was no single piece of proof that it was real, one of the largest open world games, of the current generation, on Switch, no way. But as it turns out, way, as the game is almost here and those who are at PAX Australia, can get a taste of the adventure, as the game was at Nintendo’s booth.
As someone who sunk a few hundred hours into the main Witcher 3 campaign and then the expansions, I was really interested, like I am sure most other people, on how it ran and looked on Switch. The short answer is it looks great on the Switch screen and ran just as nice, the console I jumped on, had me in the middle of a mission, but rather than attempting to complete that quest, I figured it was better to just run amok in the world and see what fun I could get up to. The first thing was that I literally jumped off a cliff, not because I thought it would be fun, I just misread where I started, but that was fine as it gave me a chance to test swimming. Upon returning to dry land, I summoned the demon teleporting horse known as Roach and it was time to take down a flock of harpies, and with that done, time to ride.
It only took a few moments after combat, to remember how to get around, just holding A, had Roach stick to the main path, at least, until he decided to take a different path from where I needed him to go. Eventually I left Roach behind and began to run through the wilderness, as that is a very safe thing to do in The Witcher games, but I was left unaccosted by any man or monster, and quickly came across a town, where I spoke with some folks, ransacked a house and generally just had fun, but as I wanted to enjoy the game again, I called it a day.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is the same game that I have already lost hundreds of hours to, which is fine, as there was some expectation it would not be the same. Yes, there are some very obvious visual downgrades, which again is not a problem, as it makes one of the best games of the current console generation portable for the first time and that is just great in my book.
