Maxi-Geek's Best Of 2020 - Nintendo

2020 has been quite the year, but in the world of gaming, apart from some delays, it really just moved along like normal. Well, as normal as it can be in the midst of a global pandemic, with that said, there were countless amazing games across the various platforms and even some good movies to enjoy.

This time, we are taking a look at the games on the Nintendo Switch that made us happy, starting with 3rd place.

Given that 2020 was the 35th anniversary of Mario, many folks predicted that there would be a game released to celebrate, but three iconic platformers in one collection, no-one could have seen that coming.

The games included in the All-Stars package are strong enough to stand on their own, but are also varied enough that if you played them back to back, you wouldn’t feel like you are playing the same game over and over. As a nice bonus, the collection also included music from the three games, which is a lovely addition.

Nintendo have made things a little weird, with a firm end date on sales for this on March 31st, but if you have it, it is still a good time.

Hades spent a year in early access and proved there, that their concept was sound, but once it released in Switch, it managed to attain god-like status.

As a rogue-like title, there is a loop and the game was smart and tied that loop into the story, giving a reason as to why you would and why each new run is better. With buffs changing each time you go for a run and the layout shifting just as much, there as so many versions to enjoy that each run will feel like a new challenge.

Plus, the game supports cross-saves with the PC version of the game, so you can swap back and forth, if you desire.

2020 was without a single doubt, a bad year, but if there was one thing that got 26 million people through it, it was Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The game managed to release just when the world was being told to lock away, so it offered up ways to meet up with friends and undertake some fun little activities. Outside of that, players could spend time renovating their house, exploring other islands to discover new fish and bugs and even trade on the Sow Jones market.

Animal Crossing has always been a massive game for Nintendo, but this year, it proved it could be the right thing for millions of others as well.
