Gears of War: Reloaded is taking players back to the start this August

In a move that is somewhat surprising, Xbox have announced that Gears of War is getting another remaster, this time called Gears of War: Reloaded and it’s coming this August 26 to Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5.

Gears of War: Reloaded includes the full breadth of content from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, delivering the most complete version of the original game to date. Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost — this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression.

All of this will be presented in 4K and with support for 120fps, plus the game will offer cross-play for all versions of the game and cross-progression, but unlike Forza Horizon 5, no Microsoft account will be required to play. However, signing in with a Microsoft account unlocks full cross-platform functionality. It enables cross-progression, so your Campaign and multiplayer progress carries across devices. It also allows you to send invites and play with friends across platforms — like Xbox to PlayStation or Steam to Xbox.

Gears of War: Reloaded has been re-engineered to look and feel incredible. These are the features that the game is set to offer, so if you have a new TV or a beefy computer, you will get the best-looking version of this iconic game:

  • 4K resolution

  • 60 FPS in Campaign

  • 120 FPS in Multiplayer

  • High Dynamic Range (HDR)

  • Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos

  • 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio

  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)

  • 4K assets and remastered textures

  • Enhanced post-processing visual effects

  • Improved shadows and reflections

  • Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing

  • Zero loading screens during Campaign

So, you are probably wondering about access to the game. The game will be available to buy on all platforms, but it will also be included in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you already owned Gears of War: Ultimate Edition digitally before this news was revealed, then you will get a code for Gears of War: Reloaded at no cost, the way Xbox are saying thanks to you. Please note, if you rush out to buy the Ultimate Edition now, you will not get the free upgrade.

With this game coming out in August, it is unlikely that we see Gears of War: E-Day until 2026, which is what I predicted earlier this year.
