Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is getting a demo

Koei Tecmo have announced that ahead of the release of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, a demo will be released for the game, giving players a chance to sample the adventure. The best news, the save data will carry over to the game.

They also released a new overview trailer for the game, giving you all the details you need to know. You can check that out below.

In the game, players will discover what happens when twin sisters, Mio and Mayu, wander into an abandoned village that is infested with wraiths and only the Camera Obscura can help them fight back.

As this is a remake, there is more to the game than just the original release, as players will be able to use Broken Spirit Stones to delve into the past of various characters and discover new side stories, expanding the lore of Crimson Butterfly. Players will also explore new locations such as the Umbral Mound, an ominous burial site tightly bound with ropes and hidden within dense bamboo groves, and the candlelit hall of Eikado Temple, where twin statues tied together by sacred cords await them.

As players explore the haunted village, fights get deadlier. Spirits can sprout wings, becoming frantic and more dangerous. Wraiths in this state glow red, heal quickly, attack faster, and hit harder. Players can use Prayer Beads to boost the Camera Obscura, adding focus points and speeding reload. Reversion Beads reset all unlocked upgrades and can be found while exploring.

Using the Camera Obscura, players can fire normal shots and new Special Shots to fight vengeful spirits. Each filter changes a Special Shot’s effect, so players can switch tactics for different spirits. For example, the Paraceptual Filter grants Blinding, which temporarily blinds a target so you can escape. The Radiant Filter grants Purging, which deals heavy damage based on how much of Mio’s willpower is charged.

The demo for the game will be released on March 5, with save data carrying across to the full game. The full game will release on March 12 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and pre-orders are open now.
