Civilization VI reveals the first details about the next update

2K and Firaxis have released details on the third update for Civilization VI, which will bring the Byzantium and Gaul Pack to the game on September 24th. While there are no deep dives into each of the individual packs, there is a lot to discover, including an all new optional game mode.

Included in the Byzantium and Gaul Pack are two new leaders and civilizations – Byzantium and Gaul – as well as two new World Wonders and a new map script – the Highlands. The Byzantium and Gaul Pack also includes a new optional game mode called Dramatic Ages, where civilizations always enter Golden or Dark Ages every era that feature more potent bonuses and penalties.

Instead of Dedications, players will gain access to powerful new Social Policies like Golden Policies and updated Dark Policies that offer more flexibility and power. Dark Ages in particular are more dangerous than ever, as players in Dark Ages will have a portion of their empire immediately fall into Free Cities, and Free Cities can exert pressure on other cities.

While the content will work with the base game, in order to make the most out of everything, having the Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm expansion is a must, because without them Dramatic Ages will not work.

The Frontier Pass is available on all platforms, PC, Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so get ready for one more turn on whichever platform you play on.
