Borderlands 4 has been paused on Switch 2, likely not coming anymore

This week is when most gaming companies reveal their results for the last quarter, it is why we have new sales numbers for Switch 2. While Take-Two Interactive revealed their latest numbers, they also spoke a little bit about the future for themselves, one of those updates was that development on Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 has been paused.

The statement about this was given to Variety and comes from a spokesperson for the company.

We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU. Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.
— Alan Lewis, Take-Two spokesperson

Now there are no other details provided for the game, we don’t even know the state of the game. It is entirely possible that there is just no end insight for the game, or maybe the combination of Gearbox and Panic Button, the latter being the studio doing the work, could just not get it up to a set quality level.

When we went hands on with the Switch 2 version last year, it played ok, but looked quite rough. This was after the delay had been announced, so it was an older build to be sure. The catch is that Panic Button are known to be able to produce some fairly impressive works, they did bring DOOM and DOOM Eternal to Switch, along with updating a number of games for Nintendo Switch 2 last year.

While we might never know what is going on with the game, for those who were hoping of a release on Switch 2, it looks like that is never going to happen.
