4Gamers Switch 2 Round-up - Review

4Gamers Switch 2 Round-up - Review

With new consoles come new accessories and while Nintendo Switch 2 has been out for a few months now, the range of options just keeps expanding. 4Gamers are a brand that offer a range of options, mostly focused on the budget level, ensuring that you can get a few items without having to break the bank. Does their latest offerings hit the mark or are you better to spend a few extra bucks elsewhere?

Premium Travel Case

When it comes to cases for your Switch 2, there are a lot of options from the basic pouch that Nintendo makes, to the fancy leather options that cost a few hundred dollars. What the Premium Travel Case offers is more than those, because it has space for the console and the connected Joy-Con 2, but also a second pair of Joy-Con 2. You will also find a home for cables, if you want to bring a few with you and space for 12 Game Cards, which are upon the screen protection slip.

Holding the console in place is single velcro tab and while constant testing, i.e. ripping it off, kept the grip pretty strong, velcro does wear out over time, so you might find it coming loose after a year and change. The underside of the Game Card holder is a very soft and slightly padded space, which gives your screen a little extra protection, which is something I like.

The issues that I have with the case though are ones that might stop you from buying. The slots for the second Joy-Con 2 are not as snug as they could be, which could result in them falling out and while there is a mesh pocket in front of them, that is way to lose to be useful. The amount of give in that pocket honestly makes it fairly useless for holding things in, which is sad, because if that was firmer it would make the other issue moot. If you are in need of a hard-shell case for your Nintendo Switch 2, this is one of the best offerings for the price, just know there are some issues.

Magnetic Quad Charger

Something that Switch owners had quite a lot of were stand alone chargers, as it meant you could charge more one Joy-Con than you could with just the console. Nintendo do offer their own charging grip for the Nintendo Switch 2 and it does work, but it’s more for using when you need to charge it and use it. This Quad Charger is for when you need to keep your Joy-Con 2 charged, but don’t have access to a console, or own the grip.

There really isn’t a lot to say about this one, it has four locations for the Joy-Con 2 to snap onto, meaning you can keep two pair charged at any time, or four left ones if you are weird. The base is quite large, which is nice as it gives a steady feel to it when you are detaching the Joy-Con 2. The included USB cable is quite long, so if you don’t plan on using a USB-A port on the Switch 2 dock, you can feed it from a wall point. The top of the unit also features some LEDs, so when they are charged you will be shown, helpful for keeping on track of things.

Radar 3D Light-up Gaming Headset

We review a lot of headphones here, like a lot of them, and for a number of them, the prices are usually a few hundred dollars and above. The Radar 3D Light-up Gaming Headset is one that clearly bucks that trend, as it has a RRP of just $70, but does that make a difference for the end user?

It really depends on who that person is, for a child, this headset would be great, simply due to the sheer amount of padding that it offers, the ear cups are incredibly soft and the headband contains some pretty decent padding as well. The sound quality is also good, not the best around, but for the price point it is decent and does the job. The big hook of the headset is the mirror effect on the outside of the ear cups, which does look cool, but it does nothing functionally to the headset. It also means you need to charge the headset, which feels wrong given that in order to use it, you need to connect it via the 3.5mm cable.

The weakest part of the headset for me was the microphone, which contains a fairly flexible arm and while it tries to stay where you put it, it is not firm enough to hold. This just leads to it constantly getting in the way and as its not removeable, if you don’t want to deal with, then it’s a bit of a ‘too bad’ situation. If you are looking for a cheap headset with a lot of padding, then this is one of the best, but other than that it is just a basic headset.

C6 100 Strike Headset

If the Radar 3D headset above was too flashy for you, then the C6 100 Strike is an option, but this is perhaps the best example of you get what you pay for. With a RRP of $40, the headset offers the basics and nothing more and even those are being generous. Now to be fair the headset does deliver some decent sound for the price, they won’t win awards for audio quality, but when used in games on Switch or via iPad, everything sounded great.

The headset above comes loaded with padding, this one has the most basic padding possible, in fact if you compare the two, you can easily see you get double for the headset above. The earcups are large, which is nice, but there is just not a lot to keep them comfortable on your head for more than an hour at a time. The headband sadly has so little padding that the hard plastic exterior will come in contact with your head if you are not paying attention. It also has the same style of microphone as the headset above, which is another point against it.

While the headset above had its controls on it, this one has them on the cable, which is a decent length and I like that. The problem is that the volume control wheel shows on both sides of the unit, with no clear direction on which way it goes to turn up the volume. Look for what this one costs, its going to do the job, so if you have a young one who just needs some headphones then fine, but if you are wanting to invest in a decent set of headphones for less then $50, there are other ones we would suggest first.

4Gamers have a decent range and while some of the items will do the job you need them too, if you are looking to buy for the long term, maybe think about spending a few extra dollars to go up in quality.
