007 First Light releases March next year as the first gameplay is revealed

IO Interactive have finally revealed the gameplay for 007 First Light, via the State of Play. The first 20 minutes or so of the presentation is just straight gameplay from the very first mission of the game, with the rest of the show being about the cast and development. The game will release for all its announced platforms on March 26, 2026.

One of the elements that the team have focused on for the game is the ability to achieve goals as you want, there is no one path to success. In the gameplay footage above there are multiple open windows for James to climb through and while the video certain path, there are more ways to achieve the goal.

As such there are multiple ways to play the game, as we have seen over the years in the movies and games, Bond can go stealthy and loud. For those who want to play using stealth, there is where your listening skills will come into play. Bond can not only have a chat with folks, but he can also listen in on conversations. Using that you can then distract enemies to take things for your progress. The world and the people within it will be your greatest asset when you play this way.

Your instincts will be key to that and of course, the gadgets. We did see a few options in use during the footage, but there was no full reveal of what will be given to Bond. Each action you do, taking out a guard, stealing an item or even triggering a light switch, will earn you instinct. The actions you have for luring guards away, causing distractions or other events. The most interesting thing is that your gadgets are not unlimited, even your watch and its many functions need power, so you will have to find batteries as you play, if you want to take advantage of what it can really do.

Of course, this is a Bond game and things will not always be quiet, which means getting into the mix. You’ll swap between precision gunplay and up-close brawls without missing a beat. In tight spaces, Bond can throw an opponent over a railing, smash them against a wall, disarm them in one smooth motion, or use the nearest object to incapacitate them. Melee skills include parries, throws, and takedowns, designed to look cinematic but still feel responsive in your hands.

The game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 26, 2026. Standard edition pre-orders are open now for all but Switch 2, as Nintendo never let developers go live when they are ready.
