Trials Fusion Awesome Level Max - Maxi-Geek 60 Second Review

It has been more than 12 months since the original release of Trials Fusion and after the games release a wealth of new content was released through a Season Pass model, Awesome Level Max is the first piece of DLC that is released on its own and while it brings a lot of content, the biggest change is that the bike is gone and in its place is a Unicorn.

While the DLC adds 30 new tracks, 30 challenges, 10 Supercross tracks and a massive 130 new items for the editor, the centre piece of the pack is the Unicorn being ridden by the Cat wielding the gun, with the Unicorn occasionally shooting fire from its mouth. Before you are allowed to play as this unique combination, you must first acquire the blueprints for turning yourself into the cat and your bike into the Unicorn, yes, you are not just swapping out the vehicle, but actually modifying your existing self and bike, a strange concept to be sure, but one that works within the realm of realism that RedLynx has created in Fusion.

The problem with the change is that when you play as the new mount, it becomes a lot harder to play the game, with the bikes, at a glance you can see how the bike is going, are you leaning to far forward, or back, is the bike starting to go onto one wheel too much. When you are on the Unicorn, the visual clues are almost non-existent, this became clear to see when I was trying to line the majestic beast up onto a ramp as I came crashing back to the ground. Sometimes I would be leaning too far forward which would result in my crashing, or too far back, which would result in my flipping backwards and again crashing.

The first level in the campaign, that lets you play as the dynamic duo actually bounces you back and forth between dimensions, that you will later get to experience, this itself is really jarring and caused me quite a level of grief that was enough to stop playing the game. Once past that though, the world’s become a lot more stable, which is something to be grateful, with one level actually having you launched from a catapult as you reclaim lost heroes who will aid you in defeating the giant space robot who is boss of this pack and yes you read that right a giant space robot.

The rest of the content is pretty straight forward, falling more into line of the other DLC packs, it provides a lot of fun and with the new bevy of items at your disposal, you can create some pretty out there tracks in the track creator mode. Some of the other courses are new ones made by RedLynx as well as a series made by some of the community that RedLynx have featured, these are fun courses and show just how great some of the community tracks can be.

If you are here for the promised Cat riding Unicorn, then you might be disappointed as it's not as featured as you might think, but if you are here for more of the insane greatness that the Trials series has become known for, then you will be happy. The addition of more items for course creation, as well the new Supercross tracks, will give something for everyone to play, it is just a shame that it's most advertised feature is the most underused.

Thanks to Ubisoft Australia for supply the DLC for review
