So, we have gone over some of the worst disappointments and some of the bigger surprises of the year, but what about the games that actually released and were good? Well don’t worry, we are covering them too.

So here we go, the best games of the year, according to me at least.

Forza Horizon 2

Man this game has it all for me, the large open world, the vast amount of challenges and the array of hidden collectables, it really is a complete package. Add on top of that, the game looks and sounds amazing. Even when I was in the middle of reviewing other games, Forza Horizon 2 just kept drawing me back in.

While I am not a fan of the main series, the Horizon series is amazing and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.

Far Cry 4

Wow, this game came out of left field, announced just before E3 2014, the game was something of a mystery, I mean in less than two years, and how they could make another full game, equal or better than the last. But they did, Far Cry 4 builds upon 3 and in ways you could not imagine, each part of the world is detailed and worth your time to explore, the characters, especially Pagan Min, are well rounded and interesting.

Now I want to know if we will get a Blood Dragon style expansion for the game.

Middle Earth – Shadow of Mordor

This game falls into the ever growing pile of licensed games that work, which is a small group to be in. The game drew a lot of attention because of its licensed nature, but won a lot of people over with its thoughtful combat system and the impressive nemesis system. How many games can you say have actually invented something new and got it right on the first go?

Here is to mode adventures in Middle Earth going forward.

The Wii U

Who would have thought that the console in last place would have some of the highest rated games of the year? If you go to Metacritic and remove the re-releases from the list, the highest rated title of the year is Super Smash Bros for Wii U and in third place is Bayonetta 2, with Mario Kart 8, Shovel Knight, Rayman Legends and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze all hitting high 80’s. If you look at the stats, the Wii U had a great year, but if you look at the gamers enjoying the amazing games, it had a fantastic one, but let us not for get the Nintendo Wii U eShop.

This year we can expect a new range of titles for the Wii U, including a new Star Fox and Zelda game.

There were so many good games this year, but these are the ones that really stuck with me, what games did you enjoy this year.
