E3 2013 - Microsoft's Press Conference - Maxi-Geek Wrap Up

So, E3 2013 is finally upon us, and what a way to start the show.

Microsoft have had, in the past a habit, a bad habit really, of starting shows with the latest Call of Duty or Halo, so starting with a very Japanese game was a massive change of pace, and one that I think that was the best choice. The fact that Metal Gear has gone open world and removed the very limited options of the past games, means that this game has hit my most upcoming games list.

Moving on to other games, we started seeing games like Ryse - Son of Rome, which is reborn from that kinect only demo we saw a few years back. And it looks unreal, so many things about the onstage demo impressed me, so its yet another games I can not wait to play.

Then the press event kicked into high gear. Forza 5 with Driveatar shows that Sim racing games are no longer just limited with the AI programmed into the game. Sunset Overdrive, from Insomniac Games, shows that the developer has not lost their sense of humor, but taking it and adding into a multiplayer experience.

Project Spark was demoed and it allows anyone to create any type of game that you could imagine. But its interesting that you can sit there with your controller for a normal experience or using your Smartglass enabled device.

The other game that stood out for me, which I was honestly shocked that it did, was Dark Souls 2.

There was so much packed into this event, that its hard to tell you about all the content that they did show. New Halo, new Dead Rising 3 exclusive for Xbox One, Below a new game from the studio that brought you Swords and Sworcery. Black Tusk studios showed a small teaser for their game, CD Projekt Red announced Witcher 3 is coming to Xbox One.

Crimson Dragon was announced as a Xbox One game, sadly the trailer shown at the event was without sound due to a glitch. Killer Instinct was announced and people went nuts for it.

At any point you can upload any of the game you have just been playing using Upload Studio, add a theme, cut your video down to the best moment of your game. Or perhaps you want to share as you play, in that case you can just broadcast your actual game onto Twitch, if you are a Xbox Gold subscriber.

There were 20 games shown at the press event, and while some games were small trailers, I am looking at you Minecraft and Black Tusk's game. Some were great trailers, like the one from Quantum Break.

The show ended with a game that a lot of people wanted to see. Titanfall.

So overall, Microsoft have a great show, they did what many people wanted, and that was show games. The games that were shown were all games that could sell a console and with the $500 US price tag, that is something most people will want.
