The Remix Special Edition Xbox controller is made using old Xbox controller plastic and more
Xbox have announced another new controller, keeping their theme of a new one a month going, however this is a very different release. Called the Remix Special Edition, it still features all the standard buttons and such, the difference is in how its made, as its a recycled controller.
Mixing post-consumer recycled resins with regrind consisting of previously moulded coloured parts creates custom, earth-tone colours with subtle variations, swirling, markings, and texturing – giving each Remix Special Edition controller its own look and feel.
Regrind is the process of mechanically recycling leftover Xbox One generation controller parts into a raw material that can be used to partially create new controllers – while maintaining durability and performance. Post-consumer recycled resins are incorporated from reclaimed materials like automotive headlight covers, plastic water jugs, and CDs.
This isn’t the first time that Microsoft have done something like this, as they released a mouse 18 months ago, that was made with plastic that was pulled from the ocean.
This controller will be available on April 18th, orders can be placed direct with Microsoft now and other retailers soon. The RRP for this is $119.95, but it does come with a rechargeable battery, where as the other controllers do not.
