Street Fighter 6 is revealed and coming in 2023
Having received the notification on the subject, Capcom have relaunched the reveal of Street Fighter 6, dropping a new trailer, complete with an original-ish logo and a host of new additions to the series, via the recent State of Play.
Having only released on PC and PlayStation 4 last time, Street Fighter 6 is adding Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 to the mix, no Xbox One or Switch though, the latter makes sense of course, they only republish old fighting games on Switch. But given that the game is made in the RE Engine, the same one that powers Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, it could make the switch to Switch later on.
So far character details are light, but Chun-Li, Jamie, Luke and Ryu have been confirmed, check out their new looks below. If the name Jamie doesn’t ring a bell for you, then you are not alone as the character is completely new to the series.
One of the big changes for the release is that the game is going to offer two control methods out the gate, the standard input, where players need to memorise countless button presses in order to execute moves, or the new Modern Control Type. The new option will behave more like Super Smash Bros and the flicking of the stick to execute a Smash attack, as opposed to the button presses that the original method required.
A massive new addition to the game is that the game will offer in-game, real-time commentary, meaning that as you fight you can have someone make comments about your calls, just like modern sporting games. Check out the below trailer to see it all in action below.
Beyond all that though, the game is set to introduce two new ways of experiencing the game, The World Tour and Battle Hub. For those who just want to fight, Fighting Ground is for you, it will offer the same experience that has been present in the series for year, though with new moves and such.
World Tour is a single-player immersive story mode that pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows you to leave your own legacy within Street Fighter 6 with your player avatar. Battle Hub, which was briefly shown at the end of Announce Trailer, will also offer players new and unique ways to engage and communicate.
