Sony are bringing their audio expertise to PC gaming headsets

In a surprising move, Sony have announced new hardware for gamers and its not PlayStation themed, say hello to the Inzone range of gaming headsets coming to Australia in late July.

“The market has been expanding with a higher interest in gaming with the spread of esports tournaments and the advancement of gaming entertainment. With Sony’s strong history of high-end audio and visual technology products, we believe this new line will offer even more options for those looking to upgrade their current gaming systems. We are committed to contributing to the growth of gaming culture by providing PC and PlayStation® gamers with a wider range of options to enrich lives through gaming. Also, Sony is proud to have a sponsorship with leading global esports leagues, Evolution Championship Series (Evo) 2022 and 2023, PGL DOTA2 Arlington Major 2022 and the VALORANT Champions.” said Yukihiro Kitajima, Head of Game Business and Marketing Office, Sony Corporation

All the headsets are going to use Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound, at least when connected to a PC running their INZONE Hub software. As that will reproduce 2ch stereo audio signals in 7.1ch surround sound as the game creators intended. It is claimed that this will allow for accurate sound reproduction that boosts spatial awareness, enabling the player to precisely hear footsteps and movement. Also, with the smartphone app “360 Spatial Sound Personaliser,” users get the spatial sound optimised to their ear shape for truly personalised gameplay.

For those gamers who have a PlayStation 5 as well, the H9 and H7 headsets will connect to the console and even come with on-screen indicators, allowing you to see details about the headset. Also, both headsets also comes packed with features including the ability to work with Tempest 3D AudioTech, which allows players to enjoy the immersive sounds when gaming with greater spatial expression.

All the headsets offer a lift-to-mute mic arm, with controls for volume also located on the same side as the microphone.

Here are some shots of the various headsets, with some key facts as well and of course, the important part, the RRP. Orders can be placed directly with Sony today, but they won’t ship for a few weeks yet.
