PlayStation 5 is getting an update this week, bringing VRR to the table

PlayStation have announced that VRR support on PlayStation 5 is set to launch this week, meaning if you have your console connected to a display that supports it, you can get the best looking game from the list of supported titles.

There are some requirements of course, you need a display that supports VRR, that is Variable Refresh Rate and has at least HDMI 2.1 for its connection between the console and display. You shouldn’t be able to have VRR without that, but with some brands you never know.

What VRR does though, is enhances visual performance for games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts, such as frame pacing issues and screen tearing. Gameplay in many titles should feel smoother as scenes render seamlessly, graphics look crisper, and input lag is reduced.

Not all games will support it though, over the next few weeks, these are the games that are set to get patches to enable support for VRR.

  • Astro’s Playroom

  • Call of Duty: Vanguard

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

  • Destiny 2

  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

  • DIRT 5

  • Godfall

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

  • Resident Evil Village

  • Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

  • Tribes of Midgard
