Overwatch is getting cross-play soon, as Battle.net removes its need for regions

Overnight, Blizzard announced that Overwatch would soon be getting cross-play support on all platforms, meaning PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Switch, check out the explanation from game director Aaron Keller.

If you want to partake in the cross-play function, you will need to create a Battle.net account, if you don’t already have one and once created, you just link your console to it, pretty straight forward.

Of course, this means Battle.net needs to support more than just one region, and with its big update, it shall. Starting today, Battle.net is removing regional barriers, meaning players won’t have to change their preferred region, to talk or play with folks in others.

“We realized some time ago that our players would be better served by a global Battle.net that did away with the concept of regions,” says Jeff Allison, Lead Product Manager for Battle.net. “But breaking down these barriers was a significant engineering task. Now that we’ve done it, we look forward to a future where all Battle.net players can communicate and game together no matter where they are.”
