No Man's Sky adds companions with its latest update

No Man’s Sky has added a lot since the game first released, but that has grown again today, as you can now ride large animals, well some of them, but if that wasn’t cool enough for you. The game will now let you breed, raise and train companions for your own uses, even just because you can.

Every planet you land on in No Man’s Sky is full of varied creatures, but as wild animals players often didn’t get to spend much time up close with them. With the creatures being weird, vibrant and surprising, the team at Hello Games wanted to give them a starring role in this update.

Travellers are now able to adopt the creatures they encounter and form close bonds with them. They will travel side-by-side with you as you adventure through the universe both as a friend and as a valuable aide on your voyage. Train them to scan for resources, mark out hazards, provide light, hunt dangerous fauna, find settlements, excavate buried treasure or even mine for materials with their own shoulder-mounted mining lasers.

A complete breakdown of what they can do, can be found here, but as each creature will be impacted by their type and the type of planet they are found on, you should be able to find some unique folks to help you on your journey.
