NBA 2K24 details its City plans for some players

2K have released new details for The City, the player area in NBA 2K24 that allows folks to get together, check the game out and just enjoy the more social aspects of basketball. As is their trend though, this location is only for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 owners, everyone else misses out.

Each game has a new location to explore and this year is no different as players will enjoy vibrant and sun-soaked beachfront views during the day and an electrifying and vivid atmosphere as the night falls. Wander through its streets and encounter new buildings, water-front courts, and Affiliations, along with a captivating Kobe Court for a more competitive environment.

In years past the game has offered up a few groups you can choose to align to, last year had four, but for some reason this year they have dropped that down to two. RISE and ELITE are the names of the factions, with RISE being all Atlantis-themed and ELITE living in a futuristic part of the city. Picking a side will take some research, but if you care, making sure you pick right will get you Rep, which is making a return to the series.

There are courts throughout the city and now players will be able to take part in Streetball. Here you can challenge bosses and tough teams in a rowdy and energetic environment featuring an MC, DJ and lively crowds. Streetball has its own progression system, with the chance to earn a Takeover perk, and offers a unique style of competition.

So all the above is well and good, but what does it mean for those without a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, honestly no idea. The studio has usually mentioned the last-gen platforms and their neighbourhood or location, but this year they are radio silent, details may come out next week though.

But the bigger issue is again that those gamers who are unable to purchase a next-gen console, are being left behind in terms of features and modes, but still expected to pay full price, as the company making the game focuses on the new and shiny.

NBA 2K24 is launching on September 8th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Switch and the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
