Marathon is back with developer Bungie taking a new approach

It has been 29 years since the first Marathon released and now Bungie is stepping back in time, as they have announced and all-new entry in the series. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Details on the game are limited, but we do know that it will launch on PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S with full cross save and cross play, but no date as to when. The game is set on the planet of Tau Ceti IV and will have players take control of a Runner, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the tough planetary conditions.

Players will engage solo or in crews of three, searching for mysterious alien artifacts, as well as for valuable loot and new weapons and gear that they can add to their collection.

Marathon is the start of an amazing journey for Bungie, one that is inspired by our studio’s legendary history while pushing boldly into the future. We’re taking all of the lessons that we’ve learned from more than 30 years of creating amazing worlds and innovative PvP experiences and putting them into a game that looks, sounds, and plays like nothing Bungie has ever made.
— Marathon General Manager Scott Taylor

Marathon was the second official game released by Bungie and while die hard fans will know it, the name is likely unknown to many gamers, but their work here helped inspire Halo and Destiny, so it plays a core part of the gaming landscape.
