Halo: Campaign Evolved announced and coming in 2026
In a move that is surprising, Xbox have announced that the first game from the new Halo Studios will be another remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, this time called Halo: Campaign Evolved. Check out the trailer for it below.
The game is coming in 2026 to Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5, yes Halo is making the jump to PlayStation. The game is a full remake of the original game, making this the second time that Xbox have done another version of this game, with Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary in 2011.
This new version of the game is being made on Unreal Engine 5, meaning that Halo Infinite was the only game to be developed on their fancy Slipspace engine. This remake will have 4K textures, updated animations, remastered music and for some reason re-recorded voice lines. It is odd that they chose to remaster the music but to record new voice lines.
The evolved in the name is actually more than just because that was what the original title had, the developers are bringing new weapons and vehicles to the game. These are items coming from later games, so I wonder what context they will be used in. The game is also making other changes, some of which are dumb, like dropping the bullet count for the assault rifle, down to 32 from the 60 it was in both the original and the anniversary edition. Something Halo Studios have said this version of the game will have is split-screen co-op. They promised it would be in Halo 5, it was not and then they double promised it would be in Halo Infinite, it was not. They have said it will be here this time, along with 4 player online co-op across all platforms, we shall see if they deliver this time.

Given that this it the third time that the game is getting time in the spotlight, one can only hope it will be the best version, but given how many times 343 Industries dropped the ball, I don’t hold out hope they will do the right thing, now that they have a new name
