Final Fantasy XIV will expand next year with Dawntrail and a new platform

During the Final Fantasy XIV Festival in Las Vegas, Square Enix revealed a lot about the game, including its next expansion pack, its getting a graphical update and the game finally coming to Xbox, all of that is in 2024 though.

The major reveal, at least for existing players is for the new expansion, Dawntrail. Revealed by Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida, This new expansion will bring an abundance of fresh content, including an increased level cap, multiple new jobs, sprawling new areas, new allied tribes, new dungeons, and new core battle content such as FATEs, Hunts, Treasure Hunts, and sidequests, and much more.

Check out the teaser trailer for it below.

While Square Enix have not listed all that is to come with the expansion, they have revealed a few parts, like the name of the new location, Tural and the capital Tuliyollal. Around the new world will be the mountainous region of Urqopacha and the large forest of Yak T’el.

Living in the world will be the new allied tribe Pelupelu, a small race who wear distinctive masks and call the mountains home. New regions also mean new jobs, though there were no details revealed for that.

Perhaps the biggest addition with the expansion is the level cap increase, taking it from 90 to 100. In addition, here are the rest of the highlights:

  • Core Battle Content including FATEs, Hunts, Treasure Hunts and Sidequests

  • New Dungeons

  • New Threats, including Valigarmanda

  • Duty Support Update

  • New Gear and Recipes

  • Expansive New Lifestyle Content

  • New Variant Dungeons, Alliance Raid, 8-Player Raid and Ultimate Raid

  • PvP Update

  • Ongoing Content Updates, including a Blue Mage Update, Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures, New Plans for Deep Dungeons and a Gold Saucer Update

So all of that sounds great right, but there is more. The Dawntrail update will also give the game a graphical refresh on all platforms, from updates to the screen-wide aesthetic appeal, to improved material qualities and most importantly, higher resolution textures and shadows.

That last one comes in quite handy, as when the expansion drops the game will also hit Xbox Series X|S. Ok, so it won’t be day and date, but what we know is that Xbox players who want to trial the game will be able to do so via an open beta in the 6.5x series, an exact date was not revealed. The full release will happen in the Autumn months, with the expansion coming in the Winter months, again no set dates for either.

So when Dawntrail releases next year, it will come to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Mac and Xbox Series X|S
