Explore old worlds anywhere with Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad

Ubisoft have announced that Assassin’s Creed is hitting mobile devices in a new way, with the reveal and release of Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad. This is a new take on the Discover Tour that Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla have offered in the past.
This new Discovery Tour has been created from the work done on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which recrated Baghdad and was set in the Islamic Golden Age, around the 10th century. The city was a major hub for the region and as such was a place for scientific, cultural, and commercial advances.
With that in mind the Discovery Tour will let players experience things through two different modes:
First, Access Codex provides players with carefully selected encyclopaedic entries on the history, art, and culture of medieval Baghdad and the Abbasid Caliphate. Based on the Codex entries from History of Baghdad in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, players can interact with this content through the Augmented Reality features of the app and benefit from additional historical information for each element
Second, Explore Baghdad is a gamified, narrative-driven journey that takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Players are tasked to collect Codex entries through a series of minigames and 360° exploration.
The Discovery Tour can be enjoyed on your iOS and Android device, but you can also experience it on any supported web browser.
While personally I love to see the Discover Tour make a return, I do feel a bit let down by the fact that it is mostly just a bunch of documents and not a freely explorable location. I know the first three Discovery Tours were used in classrooms around the world, and while I expect this might as well, it just feels like a massive step back.
