Borderlands 3 will launch on next gen, the same day the conoles release

2K and Gearbox have announced that Borderlands 3 will be releasing on next gen platforms, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on the same day those consoles launch.

Not only will this gave players another chance to explore the vast worlds found within the game, but it will present them new options. The game for the first time will run at 60fps when in 4K, something not possible on other consoles, but it will also allow for 3 and 4 player local split-screen.

For those who want to play in a different manner, vertical split-screen will also be introduced with these versions of the game, but don’t worry if you are not upgrading, that look will also coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as a free update.

"Borderlands is a ground-breaking, record-setting, critically acclaimed franchise where millions upon millions of gamers have experienced one-of-a-kind gameplay, mayhem, and fun across multiple generations of gaming technology," says Randy Pitchford, Executive Producer and Founder of Gearbox Entertainment. "With Borderlands 3 continuing to grow and launching this November on next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, there has never been a better time to jump in and join the fun."

Of course, if you already own the game on the current consoles, should you upgrade within the same family, you will get the next gen version for free, ie Xbox One to Xbox Series X. If you have the game on disc and you upgrade to the discless consoles, you will not get the game for free there, as the disc will be required to run. All save files and content will follow you as well, so any DLC you own will make the jump as well, so you won’t have to buy anything all over again.
