Blizzard details a lot about Overwatch 2, including the removal of loot boxes

Overnight Blizzard hosted a live stream event where they detailed what the future of Overwatch 2 looks like, now that the game has an early access release date. Part of that reveal was a deeper look into the new hero The Junker Queen, the map Rio and more.

We got a taste of the story cinematic for The Junker Queen during the recent Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, but now we have the full video to enjoy, check it out.

Junker Queen is a tank, but she is not a stand back and let the action come to her character, instead she is willing to charge forward and take the fight to others. Her main attack is done with her big axe, but her secondary uses her knife, because as an Australian, she needs a knife.

Beyond that, her ultimate ability picks up all of the metal around her, including her own weapons, to create a swirling vortex of metal and any enemies who are in line with her as she attacks, will get pulled in and take damage. The damage is two-fold though, because not only will people be hurt, but they will also bleed, which stops any healing from taking place for a while.

Beyond detailing the new hero, we also got a look at the roadmap, of the content yet to come and so far Blizzard have some big plans. The big thing to note is that seasons within the game are going to be 9 weeks in length, so when Season 1 releases alongside the games early access release, on December 2nd, the second season will commence. Here is the content contained within the first two seasons:

Season 1 starts off with three new heroes, Sojourn, Junker Queen, and a new Support Hero that has yet to be revealed! There will also be six new maps in some of the most iconic locations of the world: Toronto, New York, Rome, Monte Carlo, Portugal, and Rio. On top of that, players will be able to experience a new mode, ‘Push’, fight for control and push a map-centred robot all the way to enemy base. Players will also be able to enjoy 30+ skins for hero customization and a new Mythic skin as well!

Season 2 continues to roll out an epic amount of content, including a new Tank Hero, a new map to brawl in, 30+ new skins, and more. The Season 2 Battle Pass will also have a plethora of items to earn and use in the battlefield.

You can check out the roadmap, as it stands today, below.

Finally, the free-to-play model, what does that mean for a game like Overwatch 2. Well the game will support full cross-progression and cross-play, meaning no matter the platform you are on, you can keep your progress and play against players on other platforms.

Free-to-play also has that odd little thing of loot boxes attached, but not so here, as Overwatch 2 will not feature Loot Boxes at all. Blizzard have said that instead, players can acquire the items they want directly through the Battle Pass and an all-new and consistently updated in-game shop. With the team will aiming to create and deliver seasonal content every nine weeks, that players will want to get for their own.

We have few pieces of concept art that show off some skin variants and charm icons.

Finally, the details on the second beta, which is taking place on June 29th, with access being rolled out over two weeks. If you were in the first beta, you won’t automatically get access to this one, so you will have to register again, but in a big change the beta will also be on consoles this time, specifically PlayStation and Xbox, so sorry Switch fans.

When the game hits early access this October 5th, the game will be on all though.

Oh yeah, if you want to watch the entire reveal event, check it out below.
