Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch is closing down this August

Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts have announced that this August 4th will see support for Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch come to an end, around 5.5 years after the game launched on the platform.
Season 29 will be the final season that arrives onto Nintendo’s original Switch family of devices, that is OG Switch, Switch Lite and OLED Switch. Players will be able to enjoy all the content and updates that comes with it, but when Season 30 arrives on August 4, Switch will not get the content.
The decision does not make Apex Legends an offline game, no, it will be taken offline and you won’t be able to boot into the game at all once it is taken offline, not even the Firing Range will remain open to players on Switch.
It is important to note that this does not impact the Nintendo Switch 2 release, or any other platform, this is only for the Switch version of the game. Here are all the key points you need to know.
Starting August 4, 2026 (Season 30), Apex Legends will no longer be playable on the Nintendo Switch system.
Until August 4, 2026, players can continue to jump into the action, earn rewards, and enjoy matches per usual.
Beginning August 4, 2026, in-game premium currency will no longer be available for purchase on Nintendo Switch, though any existing balances can still be used before August 4, 2026. Players can use any existing balances from Nintendo Switch on Nintendo Switch 2.
All players progress, purchases, and earnings are tied to their individual EA accounts. Everything that has been earned or purchased, including Apex Coins and cosmetics, will carry over to Nintendo Switch 2, even if you purchase Nintendo Switch 2 after August 4, 2026. Please note that in some regions, local laws require you to use digital currency within 180 days of purchase.
All the above only applies to Nintendo Switch and not Nintendo Switch 2.
As someone who is a fair weather player of the game, this does not impact me greatly, mostly because when I do play it is on PC, but when I play on consoles, it is on Nintendo Switch 2. But what about you? Does this news impact your playing of the game?
If you are wanting to play online shooters on Switch, Overwatch 2 is still around, as is Fortnite, though how long those stick around on Switch is anyone’s guess.
