E3 2015 - Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands Dev Demo

I did not watch the Ubisoft press conference this year, not for any particular reason, but I did not expect the end of the show surprise to be anything special, it was either a new IP, which came earlier it seems, or my thinking was Watch Dogs 2, turns out I was wrong and boy was I happy to be wrong.

Ghost recon Wildlands was a game I never knew I wanted. And then getting the chance to checking out in person in the there was something I was not going to pass up. I filed into the room with it the other media and took my seat, in front of me 5 screens, four of which were for each player and the remaining screen was so we could swap between each view. Looking at the four side screens each showed a different location and none of them looked like they were remotely connected, but they were.

The missions the ghosts were to undertake was to extract an informant from one of the cartel’s, pretty simple because there were all on their own, so first they needed to meet up. Along the way one of the ghosts interrogated a member of the cartel to learn their way of the prisoner was once heavily fortified, which did not need to happen but knowing it helped plan at the approach. So the four ghosts it started to make their way to a small town which had a helicopter which they planned to use.

Along the way two of the ghosts had met up an approaching the town on foot, while the other two ghosts had joined up an more approaching from the other side staying low to the ground. The first two made your way through the town, disabling any enemies that they came across and once they had gone close to the helicopter, along with the other two ghosts they started a fight between the two factions that were there. This gave the ghosts the chance to sneak in and take the helicopter without having to engage in an open fire fight.

Once Airborne the game’s leading the demonstration said that we could have gone another way there It was possible that we could have taken out both sides in open combat Or we could have waited till night fell when there were less guards and taken the chopper that way. Because that’s not fun so we went for the first option of course, the fight to the prison to persona some pretty rough terrain which help show the variety and scope of the world. Once we had gone close to the prison to have the ghosts’ base jumped out, while one remained to fly and the other provide support, and as the first two descended the prison came into focus more and proved to be a more formidable looking place I thought.

The two ghosts on the ground made their way up to a higher point to get over look at the camp to see what enemies were around and are plan their best assault. With the informant located it was a matter of making our way into the camp And apart from the guard who was stuck watching over the prisoner were able to get in and out without any fuss. Our way out required us to throw the informant into the boot of the car and drive out of there as fast as possible, Of course this was not as simple as we would have liked.

The alarms had sounded and members of the cartel was shooting at the car, But of course we had support the man still in the chopper was able to take down any threats that were close to us. The plan was simple those in the car would do what they could to get away from them while those in the chopper would provide cover. Was the car had lost its tales and was able to make it to some flat ground to ghosts in the helicopter landed nearby. The informant was taken from the boot of the car and placed in the chopper and then the chopper went away.

The mission was successful the ghosts had extracted their man and were able to obtain more Intel which could help them in the fight against the cartel’s, Which with Intel would have been a more missions and more options for the ghosts. And while the demo ended here it left me demanding more the open world nature of the ghosts was something that I want to see way back from advanced warfighter, so seeing it come to fruition now makes me very happy.
